Alright this is a bit geeky, but do you guys give your hard drives names?
I used to have two external drives; castor & pollux, and then I got an even bigger drive and named it troy. Now I have these 2 big raided drives and I'm in the market for giving them an appropriate name, I was thinking they should be named after something big, and there should definitly be a theme. |

Why don't you go for the names of stars.
Betelgeuse, Antares, Aldebaren, Rigel, etc How much bigger can you get than stars? http://www.psolis.com/dreamscapes/uploaded_images/betelgeuse_sun-761608.jpg P.S. Wow, just realised Pollux is a star and you've used that name too. Great minds think alike? edit: I use practical names myself; Windows, Data, Downloads, Storage, etc. last edited by Seven at 19:55:55 24/Dec/09 |

I tend to just give the drive partitions the names sysname_1.
My current systems are all named after places in Arthurian stories - eg, Castiana, Sahal, Vagonbrei. |

I don't use anything interesting for drive names, just descriptive stuff like boot, storage, media, OSX etc.
For device names I use writers like Orwell, Shakespear, Wells and Melville. Machine names at work are taken from in-jokes we have with each other. I was thinking of migrating to different homonin names like Habilis, Neanderthalensis, Ergaster or Heidelbergensis when I feel like a change or get some new hardware. |

D: Music Games Torrent Box is called Penguin Box... not sure why... It was never a Linux box... but my brother named it... I think it was meant to be a linux box, but it became a win Server 2k because he couldn't be f***ed pissing around in Linux. My Comp is names Scooter, oddly enough. |

P.S. Wow, just realised Pollux is a star and you've used that name too. Great minds think alike? Firstly, brilliant suggestion with the stars, I think I'm going to go with it. But no I didn't choose pollux after a star: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castor_and_Pollux Although in reality I got the names from the film Face/Off, nic cage's character was Castor Troy, and his brother was Pollux. |

My raptor is called Raptor. The others are south park characters, kenny and cartman. Although I stuffed up and kenny is the bigger drive for some reason...
