Is there any way to get an FM transmitter for iphones?

I've googled and didn't find one.

My guess is there isn't an FM transmitter type attachment for the iphone.

Anything for later edition ipods should be iPhone compatible, at least for playing music through

Transmitter or receiver?

For Transmitter I believe it's called 'iTrip'. I bought a cheapo thing that does it but it's horrible.

Sadly, no.
Most you can do is get an app to stream radio off the net.

What're you trying to do? Why not connect it to bluetooth speakers?

Er, yeah I think a few people are mixed up here.

There's no inbuilt FM transmitter (well technically there is, but Apple haven't allowed access to it) but there is of course s***loads of those third party FM-transmitter attachments.

I don't know which ones are the best because IMO the sound you get from FM radio is going to be balls no matter what.

Most of the ones that worked on later-gen ipods should work just fine on iphone. You should be able to find them at all the usual places that sell ipod/phone accessories/cases etc. http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/fm-transmitter-ipod-ipod-touch-iphone-3g-2/

If you want decent sound in the car though, you really should look into a head unit that supports aux-in directly.

Better yet, why not just get a head unit with USB and plug in a 2.5" external HDD? Holds all your music, and you can change tracks with the controls on your steering wheel.

He asked for a transmitter not a reciever. Why the hell would you want to listen to the radio? There's bugger all on commercial radio worth hearing these days.

Yes I wanted to listen to the radio on the phone itself.

OK I guess I should have asked for a receiver not transmitter, my bad.

The wireless chip in the iPhone actually does have the capability to receive FM radio, there is just no interface for it in the OS/software on the phone. That being said, the nano refresh a few months ago enabled radio, so I'm guessing the next major iPhone firmware update (v4 - June probably) will have a radio app and it will work on older phones ;D. Just a prediction.

As an iPhone/iPod developer, I can confirm that the hardware is physically capable of receiving FM radio, but Apple have not allowed such functionality.

The chip (which both the iPhone and iPod touch share) which enables WiFi functionality is also capable of providing commercial FM radio and BlueTooth. Apple just don't want us having FM radio... yet...

If they release everything turned on straight away, they cant have all the followup big release thingys and annouce new features, which are actualy just things it should have had all along, like copy and paste.

I still own an iphone though, cause even with the bulls*** they are still better than all the other phones.

That same chip which would need to be physically wired up to the headphone jack with an additional contact to use the headphones as the antenna.

Which it isn't.
