The story goes this video was put up a weekend ago by an amateur movie producer and over the weekend he recorded 1.5mil views and offers from movie studios to be employed. I think it's a great video and very well done if it was done in his home studio.

Wow that was great for a short film. However, my guess is that the budget would have been huge - 10's if not 100's of thousands. If he paid for the rights to that music, that alone would have cost a pretty penny. Probably also took several years if he did all by himself (which it doesn't look like he did).

Was that Buenos Aires?

According to that article, budget was only $300... I'm very skeptical - equipment/software etc would have cost about 20 times that. The actors COULD have been working for free I guess... but I don't buy $300.

Awesome indie film!

Maybe doable for 300, but that really depends on where you draw the line on cost!

Its obvious that at least one computer, some reasonably sophisticated software and an internet were required at minimum. Is the music sampled? What software was used? Was it haxxed from the internet / student / trial versions? How much human time (opportunity cost) was invested?

For this to have been done as a commercial enterprise, surely you're looking at 10-20k minimum, even if you didn't pay actors?

Heh, if he can do that for $300 you'd just chuck him $10k for a feature, not $30mil :-P

Impressive!

But I agree it looks more like $3k(which aint much anyway) than $300. Maybe something got lost in translation?

Ok this film is good but good enough to throw $30million at an unknown? just shows me that movie studios have more money than sense...I'm sure I'll wait for the linux version anyway

There's a huge investment of time there.

The music sounds like it's from 28 days later, so wouldn't be licensed.

Good effort though, if it was made for $300 he's got a lot of friends.

Why is it so hard to believe that he hasn't made the music himself? Or, has a friend that is a music producer?

Yeah no matter how good you are at begging, borrowing and stealing, if this was a legit operation you would pay thousands of dollars a day for nothing at all. The fees you'd have to pay to the council for shooting in public, if any explosions are real then you've got to hire expensive pyros and armory experts, and have a St Johns ambulance, and the fire brigade on hand, plus all the safety equipment you'd need. Crew, actors, artists, animators all need to be paid award wage, and some of these professional rates are more than doctors/lawyers. Not to mention per diems, and feeding all these people, and accomodation. Then there is all the insurance s***, and that is literally thousands of dollars, and depending where you shoot could be way more. Equipment - you would want to hire it so you have the latest and greatest gear, and that s*** is hundreds of dollars a day just for one piece of equipment. Then you need electricity, electricity doesn't grow on trees, you'll probably need a generator and a s***load of petrol, then you need some sort of way to keep the generator quiet while you do your thing. It's f***ed, it's f***ed.

The music is clearly exactly the same as 28 weeks later, fail.

I was going to claim viral advertising - but there is articles and the like.

Might be part of the ploy to generate interest in the movie, who knows!

Looks cool but I'm going to call bulls*** on the $300 also. Licencing for the music, filming equipment, pc's, software, time (even if he did it free he'd have been missing out presumably on income from other sources while working on it) etc etc etc.

Good way to score a 30M deal though. Even if it he begged/borrowed/stole 30k that's a pretty good return on the investment :)

moral of the story - just include dedicated server support in the next MW and the aliens won't be so pissed off.
