Besides the massive price difference, can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two products? It looks as tho the kingston is just a rebranded intel x25, but surely thats not the case or noone would buy the intel drives. And from what i read, everyone buys the intel drives.
Anyone know anything on this? |

Everything is rated 90% Didn't say awesome, but the Reg has some of the best easiest to understand reviews on the net. Here is a more in depth review of the Kingston 40GB, and yes it and the IBM drives are the same: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/11/09/review_storage_kingston_ssd_now_v_40gb/ |

The kingston ssdnow v series drives don't support trim (pretty big game killer for a modern ssd) and have artifically limited performance compared to intel. Not saying they're bad, they will still dick all over a lot of consumer rotating disks and be fine for boot drives and laptops etc, but the (new and old) x25-m's are better and if you can budget for it are worth it.
NB, it's worth shopping around a bit for these drives. Local reseller prices can vary heaps as they just don't have a high demand yet in aus outside of 'enthusiast' circles, but this is slowly changing. |
