By didn't like you mean "holy wtf, why the hell.. nooooooo"? or "Worst. Ending. Ever" ?

I loved it, ending was one hell of a shock and something I didn't see coming. That said, this could be considered one of those "jump the shark" moments where if handled right, Dexter will continue to be one of the best shows on TV. Or if they balls it, then well........

Can I watch Season 4 without watching the other seasons? I definitely saw the first few episodes, and I kinda watched most of season 1, I know about the ice truck killer and who he was, and I know what happens with the black bald cop and dexter's woman and things like that from seeing random eps on TV. It's just I'm having John Lithgow cravings.

And deny yourself the previous 3 seasons of what is arguably some of the best TV around currently? Whilst you can generally pick it up from anywhere, you'll be doing yourself a massive disservice by not watching the first 3 seasons.

It's just that there is a lot of death to watch through in 3 seasons, and it seems demotivating :/
I had the same problem with Six Feet Under, I could tell it was a great show, but it's not fun to crack on an episode of the bloody funeral corpse hour.

Its about time dexters fariytale life got a bit of a shock, a nice way to go about it imo!

I think the producers realised viewers were getting kind of sick of the juggling act of dexter. Next seasons should be good, back to the style of s1 but.. with anger!

Except I doubt they're going to pursue the Cody/Astor angle. The series seems to have taken elements from the first two books only, ignoring the third onwards. If they pull a Desperate Housewives and jump 5-10 years in to the future, then they might start the "Harrison = mini Dex" story angle (although I'd put pulling this sort of trick squarely in the realm of shark jumping).

Dexter in the Dark had some supernatural stuff (but I'm only 3/4 the way through it, I've already read up what goes on online ages back), although I believe the author ditched most of this after people were getting turned off by it. They definitely go on about the Dark Passenger being something more, although I've always taken it to be a metaphor for his f***ed up subconscious..

Yeah, I doubt you can really use the books as any sort of guide as to where the show is going to go anymore.

Also, that was a f***ing awesome season, I found Season 3 a bit meh, but that was a f***ing awesome return to form.

I'm rapidly running out of shows to watch.

Not a bad ending but SoA's season ending was a mile better than Dexters. I especially felt that Arthur's death was a little bit of a let down after all the build up.

That's actually good news if it means they are tying it down in that time frame. I don't want another series of tedious plot development that could be squeezed into 4 eps.

The series seems to have taken elements from the first two books only, ignoring the third onwards.

I skipped the third book after hearing it was s***, but season 4 definitely took elements from the 4th book. In the book, he unintentionally kills his first innocent, Debra gets attacked and hospitalised, and something else I can't remember right now.

I'm pretty bummed about that ending. I didn't want Rita to die. :(

Yeah, I was thinking it wasn't Arthur as well, because the way that the killer left Harrison sitting in the pool of blood, its like it was done by someone who knew Dexter and knew what happened to him as a kid.

And if it was Arthur, does that mean naked John Lithgow was in the bath fondling Rita? Cos I don't want to think about that :(

yeah it was arthur, baby in blood was just a coincidence added for dramatic effect.

Also, John Lithgow is really good at saying "c***" and putting some real venom behind it. Like in that thanksgiving episode, when his wife speaks out of turn and he tells her to shutup. It was so harsh and brutal and came out of nowhere that I laughed.

He should absolutely win an award for his part in that season.

Well, the Golden Globe nominations are out and Dexter picked up 3: Best Drama, MCH for Best Actor (drama) and John Lithgow for Best Supporting Actor (drama). Here's hoping the guys actually pick up an award this year, as I think they've missed out the last few times. If not, MTV needs to have a special category in one of their irrelevant award shows for "Best usage of the word c*** in a TV series". Lithgow would definitely have it won hands down :P

Awesome series, I reckon they can squeeze at least 2 more decent seasons out of Dexter.

Also I went to Brisbane writer's festival this year and got the author of the books to sign a copy for my gf, I listened to him talk and he was a bit of wank also she ended up not being able to read the books, said they were pretty average and different plot to the show fwiw.

They so need to make a prequel spin-off with Doakes and Masuka, that would f***ing rock. Masuka making vulgar comments and Doakes telling him to shut the f*** up.

Hoping season 5 follows some of the book story lines a bit more. After reading them all it's quite wierd how bloody different they are.

Spoiler:
LaGuerta dies at the end of book 1. Doakes isn't killed in book 2 but has both his hands, feet and his tongue cut off/out because of the killer. Astor and Cody are killers like dexter so he starts to train them in books 3 and 4

Really hoping they find a way of adding the whole children thing into the tv show. Now is about as good a time as any to run with it.
