Topic: LCD Blur is not really an issue new research

Since we've got a few TVs thread lately, and one of the point often raised about LCDs is a motion blur. I just found this article on Gizmondo:

Study Claims Motion Blur Is A Non-Issue In Mid-To-High-End LCDs
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2009/11/study-claims-motion-blur-is-a-non-issue-in-most-mid-to-high-end-lcds/

Actual Page
http://www.displaymate.com/LCD_Response_Time_ShootOut.htm

Basically DisplayMate concludes that modern mid-high end LCDs don't suffer from motion blur, and people are mostly seeing optical illusions.

Interesting. Now it just needs to improve the price, contrast ratio and viewing angle and it'll be as good as plasmas.

Motion blur makes video look smoother :/ Who would say it is a negative thing? People deliberately pour lashings of motion blur and Gaussian blur onto their animations so it doesn't look like a bloody video game or something.

I agree with higher prices LCD improves.
Mid-priced ? no.
Then again there are MASSIVE price drops in TVs at the moment.

I just went from a circa 1993 68cm TV to 32" LCD I can't fault the screen at all, but maybe I don't know what I'm looking for?

LCD blur is when Plasma owners finally smack themselves in the face so hard for making a bad decision that their eyes go watery.

translates to
study proves nothing

if they're saying its not an issue in mid-high end, that insinuates that its a problem in low end s***

these days you don't know what you're buying most of the time, the panels are mostly built in the same factories and then shipped off to various suppliers so they can put their own bevel around it

you don't know until you've bought it or read reviews/seen it in action

He most certainly did:

http://www.displaymate.com/LCD_Plasma_ShootOut.htm

In particular read the bit about the contrast ratio and viewing angle. For the most part these days all you hear about are mostly anecdotal evidence from the Interwebs but these guys actually did it scientifically to avoid subjectivity.

Their whole shoot out series has some very interesting read actually.

Who would say it is a negative thing? Anyone that plays videogames.

For recorded film, motion blur is all well and good, you don't want it when you're gaming at 60FPS though.

All of the LCD units have a noticeable color shift at less than ±15 degrees, while the Panasonic Plasma is visually indistinguishable from face on viewing well beyond ±45 degrees. This is true for both the measurements and the viewing tests. The significance of this is enormous, because it means that the “sweet spot” for seeing an accurate picture on an LCD HDTV is only one person wide, even for these top-of-the-line models, so essentially everyone looking at an LCD HDTV will see a picture with noticeably different coloration.

Do you also watch your TV by yourself? Anyone else who wants to watch has to get their own LCD and sit STRAIGHT ON!

if you're one of the first you should just sell it, take the hit and buy a plasma
the plasma will be cheaper and better anyway

I heard LEDs are cheaper to manufacture but superior technology though they may have shorter lifespan.

oh hells yeah, I helped install one a few weeks ago now and the picture quality was off the charts, it felt like you could reach out and grab the objects on the screen

hard to describe the depth perception they create

I'm pretty sure this is a troll but if it's not, I can see my LCD tv right up to sitting at 90 degrees to the thing which obviously no TV would be viewable at because you're looking across the screen and not at it.

I have a CRT TV, an LED TV, CRT monitors, & an LCD monitor.

When these 4 things are in the same room at once, with me, I create a black hole.

tequila... I dont think they'll ever understand what we're talking about.

They obviously didn't when they got ripped off buying an LCD.

Maybe we should just bask in the perfection of our plasma's and be happy :D

lucky goldstar, it was a brand from the 80's that no one bought if their had brains.

best rebranding ever :D

edit: link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_Group

In 1995, so as to better compete in the Western market, the company was renamed "LG", the abbreviation of "Lucky GoldStar". More recently, the company associates its tagline "Life's Good", with the letters LG.

Lucky Goldstar was founded in 1947 and got into electronics by 1959, rebranded as 'LG' in 1995.

I have both 50" Plasma and 42" LCD. I prefer the colour on the Plasma. I see no difference in picture resolution quality between the two. If anything I do prefer the plasma when playing games, the colours appear more brilliant.

Gaming looks better on LCD.

Home and away looks better on Plasma.

I'm willing to compromise.

Lg come a long way, I wouldn't hesitate to buy their gear these days. In fact I bought my mum 50" Lg plasma and Blu ray HTB thingo and she loves it and has zero problems. They're pretty competitive when it comes to pricing too so I don't know what you're talking about Spooky.
