Topic: Left 4 Dead 2 Demo Dedicated Servers Online Now

Over on GameArena you'll see 40 dedicated servers now available for the Left 4 Dead 2 demo, which will be dropping on PC players in the next day or so (those that pre-ordered, anyway - which seems like the opposite way you'd want to do it, but whatever - everyone else will have to wait until later to get it). Internode also have some up and no doubt other Australian game service providers will be following suit.

It's worth a mention given the increased profile of the dedicated server issue as a result of Modern Warfare 2 opting out of this tried-and-tested system of providing multiplayer services for gamers. If you're interested in Left 4 Dead 2, you now know that there's going to be servers available, ready and waiting for you to connect to the minute you get that bad boy working.

(Sure, it's just the demo, but given Valve's history we expect this to extend to the full game as well.)

Everyone can access the demo later on, early access bonus for pre ordering?

Demo is either out in just over 2 hours time or -anytime- tomorrow, or, probably any week after that (:

Those that don't pre-order will gain access to the PC demo next week on November 3.

yeh, it just seems weird to me - those people have already committed to buying the game. Surely you want to give demo access to everyone as soon as possible to convince more people to buy it? I guess they've crunched the numbers on this and figured out this way is better for them.

I am just increasingly annoyed by the 'death of the demo' - like we should be grateful for receiving one at all, to the point where we should be prepared to pay early to get it?!

A lot of people would pre-order so they are among the first to play the game. When the internet forums light up with talk about the demo and how fun it is a lot of people will bust out the credit card because they wanna play NOW!

apparently the low violence files are vpk files which means they are addon files, which means they can be replaced.

hey rec, is your demo the uncut or cut version though? I'm curious as to if they put the uncut version on Australian servers... And is it playing nice with the cuter versions if it is?

Oh, and agreed on the demo thing. Though demos were often used to sell crap games where they would show the one and only good part of the game to make you think the rest would be as good :-/ ... miss em though :(

say what?

Its gone back to pre-loading yes, but decrypting the pre-load?
Everyone is still bitching on steam forums that it has pre-loaded again but still isnt released...
I dont think the current downloading its doing in after that 10 minutes will leave you with anything playable?
Unless you have some hax? :)

Have you been reading the steam forums lately? :)
I don't think there's any chillaxing needed in this thread comparatively.
Just confusion goin on here :)

they better have a good excuse for the delay though. people will have been playing it on 360 for 2 days by the time we get it.

also why arent any ga l4d1 servers showing up?

Wow 256. At least we wont have the same problem as we did with L4D1 on release day.

Does 2 days of playing a competitive FPS on console really sound that good to you? Sounds like hell to me :(

The delay is annoying though, was looking forward to some L4D2 tonight, but I guess it gives me an excuse to maybe finish one of the other eleventy billion games I've bought recently :P

Delayed again, 1minute before the timer was to go off,
By another 1 HR.

Which is to say, it'll probably be a total of another 10 hours :)

It's still delayed, 1hr 28m 38s overdue by the community page.
Heading off to work soon so I could really care less if it gets delayed by another 12 hours or so.
Actually, hopefully it does, so it can coincide with my return home =]

Valve are certainly playing it though!

To get the gory version, buy L4D2 via store.steampowered.com/?cc=uk - or connect to a UK VPN (trial account) and just grab it as you normally would (no URL tinkering): http://www.gamers-underground.com/forum/games-general/31856-steam-modern-warfare-2-%2462-aud.html

As for the launched demo, Australian players (censored version) are reporting some bugs. For example, bodies are dissapearing before they even hit the floor.
