Sorry about the German, but it pays to learn a little bit of another language to get past filters. You don't need to know much German to use webmail and it's all context driven - highly recommend.

yeah and if the email you receive is mostly in english and would therefore be picked up by a filter anyway, fastmail.fm is a good one

This is the reason I never use an ISP account anymore. Just setup GMail to check it in the odd event they invoice or send some important info.

I have a $7 domain hosted through googleapps for free.

At least you know your domain will always be around!

i have owned a domain since i was at uni and the internet was consisted of trumpet winsock and a ppp connection.

then i just run my mail off that so my address never changes, even before this fancy webmail came about.

sites that don't want douches that only have free email addresses; we've done it several times in the past. It's not that uncommon really but it's sorta too hard to enforce unless you're specifically trying to control your site/service to a really small group of people.

I thought ISPs let you continue to use their domain for free or minimal one off charge?

I'm migrating from MobileMe to Gmail cause it now has Google Sync (at least for Calendar and Contacts). Best of all, its free, and better.

Apple's gonna have to pick up its game I think cause apart from lack of Push Gmail, Google Accounts now with Google Sync (for iPhone) offer much more for free.

Nope, why would they?

the only reason would be lazyness from the admins not having nerfed your account yet.

I used to have a Gmail account when they first came out but I forgot the password/username so now I have one of those epic hotmail style user_12414_9393 ones. My old one was almost just my first name.

Yeah I just about every permutation of my name except for "fullfirstnamelastname@gmail.com" is taken. Not even "nick.lastname" or "nicklastname" was available. I hate having numbers in there just to get one.

By the way, does anyone know if a Google Apps email account provides Exchange sync for iPhone? The free one does Calendar + Contacts but not email.

I went for myname.au@gmail.com

More of an international flavour ;-)
