EXCLUSIVE: HEY Hey It's Saturday is back - 10 years after fans were left lamenting when it disappeared from our screens.

Channel 9 has commissioned two live reunion specials of the legendary variety show.

Host Daryl Somers and Nine yesterday promised the two shows, to be screened later this year, would be a blend of nostalgia and new material.

If they rate well, Nine and Somers look certain to negotiate a new series of Hey Hey.

I hope it does well, was funny as.

Some things are best left as rose coloured glass memories. Darryl Sommers = cringe.

I love Hey Hey they should bring it back permanently there is just nothing like it anymore. I don't mind if Darryl doesn't host as long as he's still in it, but what are the odds of him willing to play second fiddle?
They should also bring back the old hostesses like Jackie McDonald and Lavinia (?) Nixon.

the specials are on a Tuesday night ?
Sean Micallef might be a good host for a new HEY HEY
and the ChikChik Boom girl as the zany sidekick.

I want to see more live music on TV.
That 7PM thing on TEN needs to feature 1 live band every night.

7pm project is still very iffy... It's like they are trying just a bit too hard with the humour..

Anyone remember on Red Faces some kiwi's come on stage and did the haka to "Old Macdonald Had A Farm". I remember LMFAO on the floor.

ive got the best of hey hey dvd and for me its just as funny today as it was all them years ago.
if not funnier as the fashions and attitudes of the time are a crack up.
the way they used to pay out on molly meldrum was classic.
i hope they still have andrew fyfes cartoons and denise 'ding dong' drysdale as host.
a new format will be what makes it fail.
the dreaded revamp.

as for the 7p.m project. these comedians seem better at scripted humour (other than charlie) and are trying to hard to just make stuff up on the spot.
a band on the show once a night is a great idea.
allthough, the problem with the australian live t.v circuit, is that its the same band from overseas on every show that has live bands for the week they are (overseas band) in australia.

I think the other issue would be that Channel 9 don't really have a popular male presenter...

They have...
Bert Newton
Eddie McGuire LOL
????
Jules? LOL
Karl? LOL

Ch 7 have O'Keefe
Ch 10 have Rove, Micalef etc.

So there isn't really anyone else apart from Darryl who could host it anyway.

Hey Hey it's Saturday was a good night out in itself. I've got plenty on VHS tapes still, I've copied a lot of them over to AVIs - one day I will go through an torrent that s*** if torrenting is still perfectly legal then.

You are a fool, hey hey was great when it was around. Only show of its kind back then. How old were you when it was on tv?

I think a revamp may fail as well though, best to leave the classics alone.

my fav categories in priority order are:

1. kids being hit by swings
2. teen on skateboards getting polled in the nuts
3. nans falling out of boats/off jetties
4. attempted dog humpings.

This will join the list of dancing with the stars, fatty is dancing, big brother, of reasons why FTA tv just isn't worth watching. Re-hashing a 10 year dead variety show? you're that out of ideas at ch9?

Well i guess ch10 did run a "we saw these videos on youtube" show for a few months.

Used to love getting up on Saturday mornings and watching Hey Hey Its Saturday. Then they moved it to the nite and was even better......not sure how it will fair now but does have great memories.

Speaking of the funny home videos, was too slow with the camera on Saturday to catch my neighbours Malteses trying to dry root my 9mnth old as she crawled around the floor, had me in hysterics.
