Topic: Anyone insured their car with ING?

It's shop around for insurance time again for me and based on all the online quotes (Real, AAMI, Allianz, Just Car, ING, RACQ) ING seems to be the winner.

Of course a low quote isn't everything - not that I've had a claim in, well, ever, but still - has anyone insured with them? Any horror stories to tell?

Never heard anything bad about them which is usually a good sign :)

I'm currently shopping around for insurance myself for one of my cars but due to modificiation it isn't the easiest thing in the world to insure.

What type of insurance cover you looking for (a lot of different types of policies etc around)? I'm trying to weigh up if the drive for the klm's you pay stuff is all worth it as I do maybe 2000klms a year in this car.

I can definitely not recommend AAMI. Bastards.

Some chick pulled out from a side street turning right, across in front of me, and I t-boned her. No question about fault.

Tow trucks obviously scanning cop cars showed up almost immediately so I get them to take my written-off car away.

Went straight to local doctor for a checkup, as advised by the ambo who checked me out. Then I went straight home and called my insurer AAMI to inform them. The driver at fault was also with AAMI.

My vehicle meanwhile is collecting a daily storage fee at the towers (which I didn't actually know about, having not crashed often). AAMI didn't send out an assessor to the vehicle until Day Crash +7. I had the vehicle wrecked Crash +8.

So who should pay for the storage? If you answered AAMI only pay for 3 days, you would be correct. I have never yelled at anyone like I yelled at them. I was still left out of pocket. I threatened legal action, I threatened to go directly to the driver's home, I threatened everything - didn't help. In the end I just changed all mine and my partner's insurances to RACV which saved me money anyway.

We've had a few claims over the years with AAMI and they've been fine.

wait, so you threatened legal action against AAMI because they only cover 3 days worth of holding yard fees?

i bet you hadn't even read a word of your terms and conditions before you started acting like a prize a****** to the guy on the other end of the phone. it doesn't matter what the contract YOU SIGNED says, huh?

c***s like you make me hate my job, foad. (part-time motor claims department for one of the big insurers)

Check out CGU, they are pretty decent and also have differing policies like if you drive < 10,000kms/yr, etc.

I've been with AAMI and claimed with them, no problems there. Have only banked with ING and am happy.

I've claimed a few times with AAMI, always been really good. Never heard anything bad about ING but then again I've never heard that they do car insurance either.

Actually if he had informed the insurer and it was their delay in sending out an assesor, then he has every right to complain. I would've taken them to the FOS, at the first mention of the FOS most insurers collapse, especially on amounts under $500.

clubby it's tough enough trying to get someone to insure an import, let alone with mods

just cars is about it

NRMA c***s will but they have all these lame stipulations of mods, so they can go f*** themselves aswell.

Yeah, that was my point. Sorry, didn't make it very clear.

My other point was that the accident was not my fault. Therefore as far as I am concerned I shouldn't have to pay for anything at all that results from the accident? Especially such a trivial and obvious cost that is clearly directly related to the incident.

c***s like you make me hate my job, foad.

LMAO. Suck it up, princess.

NRMA is cheaper when paying annually, but I'd pay an extra $112 to pay by the month. Get bent. Other companies, incl. ING don't charge extra for monthly payments.

CGU are crazy expensive. Over $100 more than anyone else.

paveway I actually found SunCorp (who do my CTP also) to be alright with Mods etc but it is getting a bit more extreme now so yeah I'm probably looking at more a "car specialist" insurance job (with agreed value etc).

just over ;) ... make it a bit cheaper. Car has about $25k+ of mods on it not inlcuding the 2.2L STi engine sitting in the shed I'm currently rebuilding for it (agreed value of $20k cause you are never going to get everything covered I've found ... well in my case I have had trouble since it is an older model).

euphoria what age bracket you in (under or over 25) and what type of car you looking at insuring?

Generally if it is fairly new you should also ask about low klm's (I think if it is under 100k on the clock and you do less than 10k per year) options and nominated driver options. Online quotes aren't always the most accurate, in the past I've found ringing around can be worthwhile.

Hahaha.. tell us what you really think :)

Yeah I had mine with them for about 2 years but let the policy laps a few months back so looking around for new stuff.

I just filled out an online quote for JustCars and they didn't ask me if I was in a car club (which seems to be a pretty standard question from that type of insurance place). See what they come back with.

Need a new insurer too - RACQ are absolutely useless.

Haha, yeah. I've owned three cars; the one I'm driving and the two that have been write-offs. Stand by for my pics.

1983 FORD Telstar - pic taken before digital cameras existed - accident my fault, hit a dirt bank at maybe 40 km/h

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9835/n6238906384819335045.jpg

1985 FORD Meteor - pic taken with mobile phone camera - accident not my fault, hit car at about 70 km/h

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/1664/n6238906381570024422.jpg

That one hurt. Had a seat-belt bruise mark shoulder to hip and didn't feel good breathing/moving for about 2 months following. Serious serious whip-lash like I hope I never experience again. But considering the velocity of the impact, really happy with the outcome.

Bonnet and nose-panel silver from a previous accident repair job I did. Guy reversed into car while gf was driving :-/ Some people just don't look.

But seriously my mum had a prang a while back. AAMI.

Pinky, the first thing you do after an acco when the truck drivers come is tell them to take the car to the AAMI assessing grounds. Tell them not to touch your car until you have the address of your insurance assessment area.

less paperwork/holding fees, and quicker to be assessed 'coz they want to get your car off their front lawn :D

probably why yours took so long to get picked up, 'coz all the smart people already moved their cars there (see: pushed in line).

I agree with your Phookes. Hind-sight is a wonderful thing. Pity I just didn't have experience at the time. Not often you crash right, and those tow drivers are blood-suckers. They scan the cop frequencies looking for accidents. They showed up before the cops did.
