Netherlands getting tough on soft drugs
“We need to return to smaller coffeeshops that only serve local customers.” This would mean an end to drug tourism, where clients come from far afield to buy soft drugs. doesnt worry me cause a) i'm a local and b) i dont smoke, but for you aussies planning a drugged up tour of EU get in before its too late lol |

This is the problem with one place having something legal where everywhere else it is illegal. That's why if we legalise anything it would have to be a lot of places legalising it at once so they don't get hit with shady tourists.

Walk around the streets of the Red Light District long enough and you'll have dealers wanting to sell you all manner of stuff for you and your "girlfriend" (ie. some random that happens to be walking next to you in the same direction) |

never really understood why people went to amsterdam purely for the drugs. i mean it's not like it's overly hard to get drugs pretty much anywhere else in the world.

yeah, i really wanna go to amsterdam but not for buds/mushrooms... they're found easily enough in most places =)
i'd be interested in how much money drug-tourism brings into the Netherlands. if it's causing such apparent problems there must be significant numbers of tourists which means $$$. i wonder if anyone has estimated how much a ban like this may cost. |

meh the gov will make alot more money controling the supply of weed to the coffee shops + we wont have all the pot heads ruining amsterdam
the netherlands is really a family orientated society which is why they can have lax drug laws.. for me this is a positive step and hopefully will stop organised crime which is pretty big around the place.. |

yeah, if the government regulates supply and taxes it that that would probably cover the shortfall.
i didn't realise that possession was decriminalised but growing and supply were still illegal. does that mean that all the coffeeshops are in a bit of a legal grey area where it's legal for them to sell produce but they have to procure it through illegal channels? |

Yep taggs.
Very silly, you can't have personal posession and use legal but at the same time criminalize growing. The people in government are too retarded to figure that out. |

Get some Hawaiians and a few briffs and go to the zoo. Best day in Amsterdam ever.
When I was there I found all the sex trade to be more 'off putting' than the drugs in terms of creating an insidious atmosphere. |

never really understood why people went to amsterdam purely for the drugs. i mean it's not like it's overly hard to get drugs pretty much anywhere else in the world. its legal so people can smoke without the guilt. when you get back and tell certain people you tried it there they dont care. tell them you do it at home and you are frowned upon. i don't know of anyone that has gone directly to amsterdam and not visited other places in europe. its usually a stopover during euro trips. |

does that mean that all the coffeeshops are in a bit of a legal grey area where it's legal for them to sell produce but they have to procure it through illegal channels?ok, it breaks down like this: it's legal to own it, it's legal to buy it and if you're the proprietor of a hash bar, it's legal to sell it. it's illegal to carry it but...but...get a load of this...if you get stopped by a cop in amsterdam, it's ILLEGAL for them to search you. |

chub you got nfi
coffee shops buy weed from organised crime gangs from eastern europe because its illegal to buy it.. they are suposed to grow there own i guess.. this move will let gov sell it to the coffee shops people will still be smoking weed but it will be like ending proabition make it legal and the moonshiners go out of business so please explain how it will increase organised crime? |

My British Empire has long since claimed the Netherlands as its own, we have replaced soft drugs with green tea and scones. Enjoy. |
