America's Army 3 has been released! The press release has all the info: In America's Army 3, Every Detail CountsTM and as a result, the game has more authentic military elements including training, technology, weapons, and audio than any other military game. Built on Unreal Engine 3, AA3 delivers stunningly realistic environments, lighting effects, animations, and team-based experiences so that America's Army players can experience how Soldiers train, live, and advance in the Army. Players are bound by Rules of Engagement (ROE) and gain experience as they navigate challenges in team-based, multiplayer, force-on-force operations. In the game, a player's actions and demonstrated Army values are integral to successful mission accomplishment and affect a player's career progression. As we mentioned a few months ago it looks like a really cool addition to the series. Now, unfortunately due to the annoyingly painful way they've changed their distribution model (avid fans of my whining might remember me bitching about it when it was first released), it's not possible for us to mirror this like any other conventional download since the dawn of time, and as such it'll be a little bit harder for Australians to get. We did have the option to become an official America's Army distribution partner, but (for now) we've declined for primarily technical reasons about how their system works. However, you can download it off Steam. So they haven't made your lives totally miserable if you want to check it out - as long as your ISP has Steam Content Servers, anyway. |

I preloaded off Steam last week. I don't know how their own distribution platform works (or doesn't), but I don't see why they even bother making their own platform when Steam is already there.

Has anyone actually played it yet? What's it like? I played the public beta last week, was pretty damn awesome imo, but now that I have the release via steam, it's crashing on launch, kinda disappointing (fixed this, had corrupted install), but a temporary issue, I would still recommend it along with a dose of patience and the knowledge that it's a free game that imho destroys many other AAA games, the bugs wont last, but the gameplay will. As for steam speeds, I managed 1/4 my connection speed when getting the extra files to unlock/update this morning, no big deal though. there auth servers are getting totally smashed atm though, just waiting it out. On exams so I'll download it now and play it later. TPG adsl2+ and getting 800kb/s on steam. Not that hard to get I guess.... as long as you're happy to use Steam and absorb associated issues, no Yea I would still like to see the client here on AusGamers, Steam is the next best option though. |

For some reason the game isnt on gamearena servers anymore, meaning it will be metered for me if i get that 1.4gb patch. If they dont add it to gamearena server then i'll have to wait till next month to download that 1.4gb patch since i only got 5gb left for this month. |

They don't get metered bandwidth, basically. |

Useless game. The auth servers are under immense strain since everyone is trying to do the same thing at once, when the demand subsides the issue with auth will also, during beta it was flawless, all my training results saved just fine but obviously not even close to the load it's under now. |

All I did was try and load it. Then double click the item in steam. It brings up a box to show the download progress and where its coming from. My content was coming in off Internode which is no good for me so I paused it and shut down steam.

Well I did not see this one coming at all... the entire Dev team got fired 1 day after the release. AA3 going 100% in-house at Redstone Arsonal o.O. http://www.aao30.com/?p=639 f*** if I know what will happen now, they claim they will be supporting it with fixes/releases in the coming months. |

We’d like to thank all of you for your support of America's Army 3. The level of interest since release has been tremendous. As you are aware, there have been many challenges since launch. The vast majority of issues you may have experienced has been a result of the huge demand on our network which has unfortunately impacted training qualification and game server performance. Posted on the AA3 forums a short while ago, wait and see I guess. http://forum.americasarmy.com/viewtopic.php?t=298054&page=1 |

Don't even bother, I managed to get -all- the basic training stuff saved, including a specialisation.
There's only Yank servers, and lo and behold, once you're on a server, it still says you don't have the proficiency to use anything but the m16a4 with iron sights anyway. Gameplay, despite supposedly having an 80ping (not bloody likely), seems like its absolute dogballs s***, most people on the server were complaining it was terrible compared to previous AA's.... I didn't play the previous ones, but i'll be uninstalling this anyway, its s***. [edit] Local content removed. last edited by Mephz at 13:36:16 20/Jun/09 |

The patch has fixed auth for me, got all my training done, 1st server I joined did not recognise my raining also, but I had the foresight to just rejoin, got all my weapons/nades/IFAK then, the pings displayed are wrong for some reason, it's about 2-3x whats shown, and yea, atm it's all US servers, GA had one up but I could not join it (before the patch), no idea why. Overall, the patch helped ALOT. Once we get some local servers it will be sweet as, west coast US servers are playable... just. |

There are some aussie servers up, it's just no showing them in the server list for some reason, but search around in the aus AA community and you will find the IP's, I hear that some of the aussie servers will soon be official servers, should fix that. And yea pings are about 1/3 what they really are, kinda lame. |

man, its just so frustrating. You go try and check or change a control setting or anyting else in the menu's and you have to quit the mission your in because the dev team forgot to allow a way to turn of the stupid fukin menu. Did they even test this thing at all? No wonder they got sacked.

WFM, there is a patch been released which addresses a bucket load of issues. Steam is Dling it now so I'll see ho wit goes.
EDIT: Its still buggy as all s***. I cant get the HUD to show, cant get Anti Aliasing to work and if you hit escape to get to the settings menu while in game, you cant escape from the menus rendering you unable to play. Ahhhh f***. last edited by E.T. at 12:39:48 04/Jul/09 |
