Topic: BioShock Movie On Ice Due To Budget

Gore Verbinski has told Variety.com his pet project, BioShock, based on the 2K Games videogame of the same name (funny that) has hit a budget roadblock, halting the production until an arrangement can be made between Verbinski (whose production company is partnering for the flick) and Universal Pictures who aggressively pursued rights to the license from Take-Two Interactive last year.

"We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the US to take advantage of a tax credit," he told the site. "We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern."

Apparently the budget as it stands is in excess of $160 million, which is the price tag that prompted the studio to step in and wave a flag of concern. However, both parties (Verbinski and Universal) are stating BioShock will not become another Halo.

I'm not sure this is entirely bad news. It's bad when Uwe Boll's Postal was one of the better/more accurate Video Game to movie conversions in recent history.

How on Earth can you compare Boll to Verbinski?

Universal just need to suck it up and pony up whatever cash it takes for this movie, top budget films are what Verbinksi does best. Hell, $160mill is just over half of what his last movie cost to make :P

yer but that was already a well established franchise that had already made $1.7 billion at the box office.

this will make money but no where near the money the pirates movies made.

Dan: I wasn't. I was commenting on the current state of Video game movies. They're almost always abortions, regardless of who's attached.

Haha, that would be interesting - the first half is all James Cameron/John Carpenter and the second half is Jack Black/Be Kind Rewind.
