Topic: Duke Nukem Forever Hits "Milestone"

Man, I hate twitter - personal forums make no sense because it's harder for it to be counteracted, and at the moment, in the games industry, it seems like devs are utilising them for intense hyperbole, and the hardcore gaming community is eating it up like nothing else.

According to his latest twitter update, 3D Realms' George Boussard has said "Closing out a milestone this week. 71 more tasks to do and we started with probably 800-900", I'd be more inclined to suggest the milestone is the game is the longest developed game in history by now.

Still, this statement has had the correct affect; who knows, maybe Duke Nukem Forever will actually arrive in by its projected 2010 release date.

I wonder sometimes if DNF is a real game or a hoax that just got out of hand.

I'm not expecting much out of this game. I'm only expecting it to be around 6 - 8 hours long too. 10 years wait for 1 day of entertainment.

I'm also not fond of twitter, encourages people to write a lot of pointless stuff on the Internet. That's why I come to QGL, nobody just types something at a whim, everything is thought through very carefully.

How ironic the games acronym is also that of the racing term "Did Not Finish".

If their milestones are 800 - 900 tasks apart, then that probably explains why the game is taking so long to make, because their project management is s***house.

so they have 71 more tasks to do in 2-3 days before the end of the week, is that what it meant? If so then the 800-900 tasks would only be a few weeks, no indication that it's Duke :/

What he didn't specify was that one of the tasks was "Return to task 1."

If DNF ever does come out, I hope their follow up title doesn't try to outdo this milestone.

I'm sure it already hit and passed the "longest developed game" milestone a while ago.

As individual development team members (both past and present) it must be a really s***ty situation to be in.

First you've got stupidly optimistic marketing droids spouting "we'll release next year honest!" for over a decade.

Second you've got your potential fan base ready to crucify the game when it finally comes out and fails to live up to the hype and wait - Daikatana style!

Finally if you're thinking of jumping ship you've got prospective employers that are going to look at your resume and see DNF on it. That surely can't look good within the game dev industry.

Hopefully it winds up more on the TF2 long wait standard than the Prey one.

Someone said to me "I wouldn't hold your breath" about waiting for DNF.

Damn my stupidity in taking that bet.

Short. Sentences.

Running out.

You know, it'll finally be finished. Be one of the best games ever made, then banned in Australia. HA!

i dont get the excitement over this. All i can see is they set a milestone of tasks to complete for one week, and they did it. Now they are setting another one.

It might be like Conkers Bad Fur Day for the N64.

Redeveloped it a BUNCH of times, took years, eventually came out.

10 hours long, but probably the best 10 hours of gameplay you can get.
