Topic: RAID recovery: looking for an ASUS A8N-SLI-PREMIUM mobo

After 3+ years of loyal service, my PC has waved the white flag. I changed the PSU, no joy. FAN goes nuts at power on, no beep, no POST. I can only assume the mobo is toast.

To my problem: I've been running a RAID 0 stripe and there are a few files I didn't back up last night before shutting down and I'd really like to recover them. Which means I need a replacement mobo that has the same RAID controller.

So does anyone have an old working ASUS A8N-SLI-PREMIUM sitting around collecting dust? If so, can I borrow / buy it? I just need to get my HDDs up so I can get those files.

Failing that, I'll hook the drives up to another pc and hope that I can recover some of the files (as they're pretty small and just might not be spread across the two physical drives). Does anyone have any tips for successfully recovering files like that?

I have an a8n sli deluxe sitting on my desk doing nothing. Dunno if it has the same/compatible chipset or not. But if it does you can have it.

any nvidia onboard raid from your model upwards is going to deliver the compatibility what you want

Thanks for the offers guys. It was web dev work that I've lost and my client happened to view the files last night, so I might, just might, be able to recover most of them from their browser cache.

If I have no joy, I'll let you know.

Took a gamble and fired up DiskInternals Raid Recovery using a second pc... success! Fortunately the files I needed were text-based so I could copy the contents without needing to pay their crazy $250 USD price for the software!
