Ok guys, I've been having a very strong craving for a few dozen Churros and thankfully because I am a guy I know I'm not pregnant.

Now, I only ever see these delightful treats for sale at the stands at ekka, other small fairs and at Southbank Markets.

I am wondering if anyone knows where they can be brought? from like a proper shop\bakery or something akin.

Thank you.

edit: I just fully read your first post and I missed the part where you already know this information..

I too would like to know where I can get a hit of churro mid week

let me start by saying;

I too suffer from a churro addiction thus I am reluctant to help

but in the case that you have more will power than I;
Weekend markets @ Southbank, churro van is at the west end of the markets just next to the outdoor pub garden area

Why not make them?

They're pretty easy, I did them a while back when I saw the recipe/method on that SBS Food Safari show.

I didn't know what a Churro was until I went to a baseball game here.

Took one look and politely said "no."

I have to agree with Casa.

We used to have these at work all the time. I don't understand it: When I was eating s*** like churros frequently, I kept my weight at 63kg. Since stopping eating churros, my weight has increased to 67kg.

I think the evidence speaks for itself.

Ok, this thread has now made me want churros, and I have even less chance of finding them in the middle of f***ing nowhere, so thanks a lot!
Also, they're better without the chocolate and cream imo.

On topic, +1 for make them yourself.

Yeah, as said - Choco Churro at Flinder St station. http://www.chocochurro.com.au/index.php?id=contactB for locations.

There's a few San Churro's around the place - I know there's one at Knox and Eastland - http://www.sanchurro.com/contact.php for locations.

Yeah, they're everywhere in melbourne, I never knew what they were till I moved down here. As well as the ones above, I think theres a place in Melbourne Central that does them? And theres a van thats always at the Queen Vic markets. Theres also a place in the food court at the top of collins street that does them, but they're pretty s*** from there.

I love Churros. The love affair began when I first had them at Disneyland way back in 1996. They're at the places mentioned in this thread fyi. Someone should post a recipe though.

There is a place at Southbank markest as sc00bs said. But they are shiitttt. Used to get the most delicious ones in spain if you feel like jet setting :P

Edit: here's a recepie

http://www.xmission.com/~dderhak/recipe/churros.htm

The Churros

Ingredients: (Makes one platefull)
Vegetable or Olive Oil
1 cup water
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Prepare to fry the churros by heating oil in a pan (1 to 1&1/2 inches) to 360 degrees F.

To make churro dough, heat water, margarine and salt to rolling boil in 3-quart saucepan; stir in flour. Stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball, about 1 minute; remove from heat. Beat eggs all at once; continue beating until smooth and then add to saucepan while stirring mixture.

Spoon mixture into cake decorators' tube with large star tip (like the kind use to decorate cakes). Squeeze 4-inch strips of dough into hot oil. Fry 3 or 4 strips at a time until golden brown, turning once, about 2 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. (Mix Sugar and the optional cinnamon); roll churros in sugar or dump the sugar on the pile of churros, like the pros. That churro taste will take you right back to your favorite summer days walking the paseos of Spain.

Note: REAL churros in Spain are made without cinnamon mixed with the sugar, but the cinnamon adds an extra nice flavor.

Chocolate for Churro Dunking

4oz dark chocolate, chopped
2 cups milk
1 tbsp cornstarch (also known as cornflour and is the powder that causes the thickening)
4 tbsp sugar

Place the chocolate and half the milk in a pan and heat, stirring, until the chocolate has melted. Dissolve the cornstarch in the remaining milk and whisk into the chocolate with the sugar. Cook on low heat, whisking constantly, until the chocolate is thickened, about five minutes. Add extra cornstarch if it doesn't start to thicken after 5 minutes. Remove and whisk smooth. Pour and server in cups or bowls for dunking churros. Do not pour over churros, but use the mix for dunking churros after every bite. Served warm.

I came, I saw, I churro'd.

Found the place TicMan, went yesty morning with my missus. The verdict is that I struggled to get one down. It's like pastry covered in chocolate dipped in chocolate and injected with chocolate. Rich is a massive understatement.

Anyway, in the sprit of 'Pics or lying' here's the evidence:

The Churros on the right look similar to plain Churros but they have white stuff on them that I can't quite make out in the description.

I find it hard to believe that there's a Churro store. Well done TiCman and Pinky for finding and photographing it.

I think that store must be a franchise or something, cos theres another one of those opening up next door to the coles on elizabeth st, near the corner of elizabeth and flinders.

But they do look kinda crap there, its like the Krispy Kremes of Churros. The ones I've had before are just like other people said, just spanish donuts basically, with some sugar and cinamon or some icing sugar sprinkled over it, sometimes with a chocolate sauce that you can dip them in if you want.

I recommend the ones from the van out the back of the Queen Vic markets if you're ever in the area :)

If you are ever in Melbourne, you must try churros from "El Churro" located at Northland shopping centre in Preston and at Broadmeados shopping centre... in my opinion they make the best churros in Oz... they are golden, crispy and deliciously soft in the middle. They also make the jumbo filled churros with a variety of fillings.. Caramel is my favourite!..Their hot chocolates are also to die for...

Also churros are awesome.
