Terminator Galactica?
that's exactly what I thought, heh. looks f***ing awesome though. after watching the Terminator brand get raped recently though by watching T3 and the Sarah Connor Chronicles I feel like they don't deserve my money no matter how hard they try. Bale's temper tantrum didn't exactly fill me with joy either, but hopefully I can just remember he's a f***ing awesome cainer actor.

What's this terminator galactica? I couldn't bring myself to sully the memory of battlestar galactica by watching the new series.

I reckon this movie will be like every other movie, they show the good bits in the trailer and that's all there is. Watch the trailer and you've seen the movie.

Bale's temper tantrum didn't exactly fill me with joy either, but hopefully I can just remember he's a f***ing awesome cainer actor.

Edit: looks f***ing awesome, and agreed on the music comment above, I hope it's actually music from the soundtrack and not just some s*** they play for the trailer, I hate when they do that!

Also, the guy who plays Marcus Wright is like the coolest Aussie actor ever...

It doesn't sully ... in a weird kind of way it improves it

While I agree T3 sucked. I have actually enjoyed the Sarah Connor Chronicles (well compared to s*** like Life on Mars and the other crap on tv)

I think parts of the T3 story needed to be told, it just ended up being told in such a painful and gimmicky way.

Also, as if every single person who loved T2 didn't think they absolutely had to make a full movie of the intro bit in the future. Though this movie is set before that time, hopefully this movie is really well done and the same people make another one set further into the future.

I honestly did not like that trailer for the fact it spoiled Sam Worthington's character. I thought it was all supposed to be a mystery about his character, not knowing who he was and if he was from the past or future.
They just basically showed that hes a terminator, why not keep it under wraps and have it come out in the film.

Probably find out right near the start, I didn't get the impression it was meant to be a big mystery or anything. It seems like "Holy f***, the machines are copying humans now and we're all f***ed" is the initial catalyst for everything thats going on, so I'm assuming its found out pretty early in the movie.

Yeah, James Cameron recommended Sam for the role so he must think pretty highly of him.

Be nice to see some kind of teaser for Avatar as well seeing as it's coming out later this year. The script for it looks like it's gonna be a very cool movie indeedy.

Yeah, but thats the bit that doesn't make sense to me. Because this movie is set earlier on during the war, before John Connor is the big heroic leader he comes to be, and while the machines are still refining their designs for s***, so if they managed to make a terminator that thinks its human and can 100% infiltrate the resistance, why would they take a step backwards and stop making them later on.

Disappointed to read this; was also looking forward to Terminator: Salvation.

Remains to be seen whether this is a fair criticism, but sounds eerily similar to my impression of the "Star Wars" movies Ep 1, 2 and 3 (I don't consider them part of the Star Wars mythology- I have decided to disown them completely) and the new Indiana Jones disaster. Story. Dialogue. Fully realised characters whom the audience actually cares about - 0/3 on all accounts.

However I did like Alien: Resurrection. Totally watchable and apart from the slightly cliched mother/baby moment at the end I totally rate it.

Still, anyone who uses the expression "nuked the fridge" is ok in my book.

Yeh, but you cannot be seriously surprised by this. I mean if James Cameron who invented the whole thing didnt want to make another Terminator movie then how can anyone seriously expect a 'you so amateur' (Christain Bale voice) b-grade director to somehow magically make a decent movie.

Story was so-so

Would have liked to see more battles with terminators in the cities, or see more about skynet itself... but for a action movie was good.

Great use of sound effects to.. that massive hunter/killer robot thing that was kidnapping people at the fuel station sticks in my head.. simply because of that massive droning sound effect that went with it..

Affirmative.

Just came back from watching this. Great special effects and the sound was brilliant. An entertaining sci-fi action flick that's worth my $9 to say the least. Low expectations FTW. Though i thought the cinema (Sunnybank AMC) would be more packed. It was barely half full.

Sam Worthington made christian bale seem like a supporting actor
Negative.

Well... i wouldn't go as far as saying that, bale definitely stood his own. I reckon it's just that Worthington was this half human half machine s*** which instantly made him cooler than some 'ordinary human resistance leader" typa guy.

Talking of which, you could tell there was something up with Marcus, before the revelation that he was a half cast. Like that bit when he saved that chick from those 2 guys. He got king hit and his head barely moved. You knew this guy was a bad muddaphaqqa deep down inside.

Spoiler:
Highlight of the movie was arnie's brief appearance as the T800 whilst the terminator theme was playing in the background. It wasn't much in the big scheme of things, but the remodeling of his face from the original 1984 terminator was a nice touch.

P.S - Damn just now i realized where i recognize Anton Yelchin from (the guy who played Kyle Reese). He's the scrwany geeky kid from Alpha Dog!

Anton Yelchin also plays "the kid with the thick Russian accent" Chekov in Star Trek!

Honestly thought Termintor: Salvation was average. It has some heart racing action and chase scenes and some fan appealing scenes at the end, but overall rather dull. Besides Marcus, John and Kyle, there wasn't any other character to like or care for. There weren't any satisfying all-out conflicts with Terminators and the skies, or SkyNet for that matter, didn't seem deadly at all. I mean John infiltrates SkyNet all by himself, WTF!?

i agree with everything matchfixer said

you can't go in expecting something like T2, because it's not even in the same realm as that and has never tried to be.

i was of the opinion 'no arnie, no care' etc

but it's actually not a bad movie. my man bale did a good job as expected

dunno why but i thought it was cool the resistance still had mostly todays military hardware, the A-10's were cool.

This movie was infinitely better than Terminator 3, I really enjoyed it, the only things that really bugged me were the completely inconsistent physics when the terminators and marcus and humans were fighting, like how can Marcus bash a terminator across a room but then struggle to help John Connor up after he's been skewered?

i saw terminator salvation last night. it's ok as a standalone action movie but doesn't sit well with any of the previous movies imo. bale does a pretty good job as connor but the story is just dumb.

Spoiler:
i also wanted to see a futuristic post apocalypse style warfare between man & machine... dissappointed! at most you get a couple of terminators wth no skin on or a hk or a harvester (which looks like a ghetto transformer) fighting a ragtag bunch of knuckleheads with popguns :/

the terminator bikes were cool... but c'mon... asif! they'd be better off in a madmax sequel. 4/10.

apparently bale ruined it because he wanted to play connor, instead of who he was cast as, so they quickly rewrote connor into the movie. Originally he was supposed to only be in the movie for like 2 minutes.

One call back to the original films that I thought was cool was how Bale gets scratched on his face. I thought that was subtle and clever! (Watch T2 again if you don't know what I'm talking about. )

Washed out colour was great - gave it a gritty war film feel :p Didn't you ever wonder in T2 (or any other Cameron film), "why is everything blue?"

Spoiler:
The gayest part of the film was how the chopper seemed to manage to escape the explosion at the end of the film, when a similar explosion at teh start of the film caused the chopper to crash...

OK so I saw this on Tuesday. I didn't want to kill myself the whole way through it like I was expecting. However, I did facepalm, rollseyes, and definitely would have headdesked if one had been available.

Overall it was a fairly enjoyable action flick. I can't fault the special effects. But f*** me, the story just felt disjointed and was full of so many things to pick on that I just couldn't relax or unwind the whole way through it.

I'd want to watch it again to fully dissect the hell out of it, but some of the things that bugged me:

Spoiler:

- why don't T800s know how to kill humans lying helpless on the ground in an efficient manner? Picking them up and throwing them against the wall clearly fails. Reach down and snap their neck. Or one of the many, many options that are available to you if you are a super strong robot made of adamantium or whatever.
- how come the rebel alliance can have massive, above-ground bases with runways and helicopters and A-10s and tents and hangars, all of which are no doubt beaming crap out into the EM spectrum? No wonder Connor is able to put up such a fight, Skynet is completely and utterly uncoordinated. Nothing like the underground gritty vision of the first two movies. I could believe the sub (thought that was a nice touch, actually).
- What was the explanation for Skynet taking human prisoners?
- Why, WHY did they have to 'humanise' Skynet at the end with Helena Bonham Carter's giant head on the screen?! Even including the s***ty third movie, the awesome part about Skynet/Terminators was just the sheer, complete, utter inhumanity of them. They didn't talk, they didn't chat to humans, they didn't gloat, and they certainly f***ing didn't EXPLAIN THEIR WHOLE GODDAMN PLAN like some sort of supervillian. Jesus H.
- Did they really have to enter into the whole time paradox s***? As soon as you put time travel in a movie, you make it completely and utterly lame. T1 and T2 gracefully avoided the whole problem by pretty much ignoring all the stupid s***.
- The radio code thing was stupid.
- The giant massive robot thing just looked like something out of Transformers and made me weep. I wanted the armies of Terminators traversing the landscape like I was promised in T2. I wanted fricking laser beams. I wanted Connor and Kyle Reese fighting side by side, Connor knowing he's going to have to send Kyle back at some point but powerless to stop the future that he's swept up in.
- Why did that pilot let hybrid Terminator guy go? "Because I looked into his eyes and saw a man" is not a valid excuse for someone that's spent most of her entire life fighting the machines, and just been shot down by machines. Why.
- CGI Arnie was awesome. I loved it when they shot him with a grenade and his face burned off, I assume because it was too expensive to keep doing all that rendering.
- I thought the heart transplant scene was a bit cheesy. The whole movie they're punching you in the face with "this Terminator has a HEART, a human HEART, which is really STRONG and it's BEATING LOUDLY, just like a great HEART does". And then at the end, "oh no, Christan Bale's heart is ... just too weak to survive.. there's.. nothing we can do. Nothing at all. Nothing. Oh unless, like, we can find a spare heart lying around that noone needs or whatever... but we'd never find that."

But aside from all that it was OK.

I'm not going to bother using spoiler tags, because anyone who reads this far into a thread about a movie they haven't seen either doesn't care, or is too dumb for their own good.

Or one of the many, many options that are available to you if you are a super strong robot made of adamantium or whatever.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but didn't they do this in the previous films too? It's been a while since I've watched them, but I thought they did the same silly "I'll throw you about until you defeat me!" thing.

- What was the explanation for Skynet taking human prisoners?

I thought it was research for creating the T800 and its successors?

spoiler?

was how the chopper seemed to manage to escape the explosion at the end of the film, when a similar explosion at teh start of the film caused the chopper to crash..

i thought what was worse than just the chopper flying so fast it escapes the explosion, was that it also flys like a plane - angled backwards when clearly that would make the chopper go backwards
