This is old by 'news' standards (with emphasis on the word 'new') - but still interesting none-the-less. The tomato sauce A radio-controlled contraceptive implant that could control the flow of sperm from a man's testicles is being developed by scientists in Australia. |

The procedure cannot be reliably reversed, leaving some men to later regret their decision. Didn't that Dr Cox on Scrubs have it done and reversed several times though. I guess that's TV though. Sounds like an interesting development. Wasn't a male pill also undergoing testing? last edited by Triamks at 21:03:58 27/Feb/09 |

How big do you reckon the lawsuit would be if they lost someone's remote code?

Wouldn't it be handy if the next door neighbors garage door remote turned the boys back on. The antics...

Doesn't the blocking of sperm cause some sort of damage?
Open ended vasectomies allow for the sperm proteins to be absorbed by the body. Is the same thing able to happen if you don't allow them out of the vas? |

Why wouldn't you let them out of the "vas" occasionally if there was a risk? Click of a button and some material is all you really need.

nF, it don't read all that funneh no matter how you phrase it. Blocking of sperm SAVES you money, not the other way round :)
f*** the budget on the pr0n filter off an give it to these guys. I would heartily (as would many I'm sure) welcome a reliable male contraceptive instead of having to rely on some devious bitch suddenly deciding it was "time" once your both figured out your not going to biologically kill each other (or worse). last edited by HERMITech at 11:05:11 28/Feb/09 |

Doesn't the blocking of sperm cause some sort of damage? I've always wondered this. And also wondered if getting a vasectomy would f*** with your orgasm. It's high risk in my mind, lol. My Dad's had one - but I ain't about to ask him the fine details just yet... And yeah, if there was a reliable male pill I would take it. I'd love to have control of that instead of my partner - even though she's trust-worthy, only missed the pill maybe 5 or 6 times in the 8 years we've been together which is an awesome record. |

Jeeze, trust issues much? No, not really, just a guy who is actualy aware of what goes through womens heads when their biological clocks begin ticking. I'd prefer control over procreation to that of having to go through abortion which is (no pun intended, well, not much anyway) a very emotionaly draining process on both parties, letalone mention the physical effect it has on the woman. If they suddenly decide that they don't want/can't go through with the procedure then your life is f***ed. Pinky, my ol man has had a vasectomy - much to late in many peoples opinions ;) and so has one of my older brothers (after 5 kids, who couldn't blame him) and everything still works just fine. Stress free orgasms apparently. I'd like to get one myself cept every doctor I've ever asked about it have always declined my request cause I haven't had kids. They don't get it that I don't f***ing want any... So, an effective male contracptive like this would be well worth it. |

You can understand the Drs' policy because of this:
Although women can choose from several long-term contraceptive methods, for men vasectomy is really the only option. With this procedure, the vasa deferentia are cut or blocked, a process that requires surgery and can require a week of recovery. The procedure cannot be reliably reversed, leaving some men to later regret their decision. While you may don't want kids now, you may want them in the future. You never know, stranger things have probably happened in your life. The Drs don't want to get sued down the track for following your desire right now. |

Most vasectomies these days are open ended, allowing the spermatozoa to be released into your body and absorbed. The Vas on the urethra side is clamped and blocked, but the side from the testicles is just cut and left.
If blocking it on the testicle side (or putting a block in the vas) just forces the spermatozoa to be reabsorbed within your testicles with no side effects I guess this would be a very useful tool. However the vas is obviously created so that no spermatozoa can get through the wall. SO I still question the long term effects of built up spermatozoa. Pinky: spermatozo make up around 5% of what you actually ejaculate. Your semen looks no different and the actual mechanics of it all doesn't change. However like most surgeries, it affects each person differently so the above isn't taking into account any freaks out there :) I think this would give men some power back and not prevent them from having kids in the future, or forking out for a reversal. Most professionals who do vasectomies now do it with the forward thinking that the guy will want a reversal. So it is done in a way that will allow a very good chance of you having it reversed. |

I definitely think they should be working on contraceptive methods for men that can be reversed, in the same way that taking out implanon or stopping the pill etc can. I definitely think guys should have more responsbility and control to cut back the number of accidental pregnancies. Even something like taking anti-biotics or vomiting can reduce the effectiveness of the pill, and stuff like that can easily be overlooked at the time.

Regarding a vasectomy, most done these days are open ended. They snip the vas and tie off the side opposite the testicles. The testicle end is simply left, open and floating free. Upon ejaculation the sperm shoots out of the vas and floats around inside the ballsack and is reabsorbed by your body.
There is no build up and nothing the man needs to do. I mentioned this in my earlier posts Regarding the procedure in the OP, I am not sure how the sperm are released if at all. The vas is designed so sperm can't be absorbed through the wall so I am not sure what happens if it backs up and flows into the testicles, my guess is that it gets reabsorbed. PS, I don't have testicles and even I know blue balls is a myth last edited by Kat at 14:48:57 28/Feb/09 |

While you may don't want kids now, you may want them in the future. I'm sick and f***ing tired of people saying this, I really am... I'm pretty sure that seeing as I turn 40 later this month, I've a damn good idea about what I don't want. And having kids is definately something that I don't want. Saying that I might later on is such a weak f***ing statement. What about these equally absurd statements. I don't want to slice my nipples off with a razor blade now, but I might later on. I don't want to create and detonate a nuke in a heavilly populated area now, but I might in the future. Really, wake up. Accept the fact that some people actually know what they want regarding their life choices. |

So are you saying you are 100% sure you don't want kids, that there is no chance in the near future that something might happen that will change your mind? Are you saying you can see the future? Can you tell me if I ever drop a nuke in a heavily populated area? Are you god?

Dr's do have to tread carefully. Some people make decisions based on nothing but the now. No thought to the future or what might change for them as they grow up.
However I do think that a lot of people know that they want sterilisation and that they should have the access to it. 16 year olds can get breast implants for pete's sake, why can't a 25 year old get their tubes cut? The issue we face is personal responsibility. If someone asks to get snipped and then changes their mind they blame the Dr rather than accepting it was their choice. |

Before you get excited I was extremely dehydrated, did a triathlon in the morning for 1˝hrs and then went to soccer training for 2 hours. That was on a 30'C day as well to top it off. Apparently if you run with an empty bladder the walls of your bladder can rub together and cause mild bleeding. Fun! Only pissed blood once and then all cleared up before the next piss so no real concern. |
