Good riddance to bad rubbish. From the press release:
Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo to depart company on 30 June However I think the picture Gizmodo used sums it all up significantly better: http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/7164/soltrujillowavesgoodbye.jpg So, who's going to be the next |

I thought he was going to bring some fresh US ideas into telstra and stop it from being the stupid archaic australian monopoly that 3gigcap ziggy ensured. Turns out sol was quite happy to let it be just as bad if not worse. I hope someone good runs it next, someone who's not happy for telstra to be the big, giant prick of telco's.

Turns out sol was quite happy to let it be just as bad if not worse. It's weird, it's like he felt compulsion to some sort of massive group of invisible people that had weird expectations that the company should exist solely to make money and return them some fraction of it |

Just because telstra hides behind the facade of doing what's best for the shareholders doesn't mean it can be a c*** to its employees (hi teq) and customers (everyone over 55).
And no, they are selfish. They'd rather make no profit and have others make no profit too than have others make money off them while they make a profit too. Like the ADSL2+ enabling of exchanges, as soon as the ACCC agreed that they would not tell telstra how to price their stuff wholesale wise, they magically ADSL2 enabled hundreds of exchanges overnight. They are selfish pricks. last edited by MrHardware at 11:28:43 26/Feb/09 |

The only positive I can take out of Sol's tenure at Telstra is that his aggressive staff reduction policies resulted in me being made redundant from a job I hated & wanted to quit anyway. Being paid to leave and then a couple of weeks later finding a better job doing similar stuff at 3. Really doesn't get much better than that!
I'm just surprised the share price hasn't spiked upwards in response to the news :) |

Yeah he didnt really change much over 4 yrs imo.
Telstra still is probably the most hated company in Australia. They still offer reliable but extremely poor value products. They still waste millions and millions of dollars a year on advertising their poor value products rather than improving the value of their products. The share price still isnt worth what I paid for them. Looks like he sacked alot of c***s and made alot phat lewt for himself and that's about it. |

He wasn't really a bad CEO by any means. His decisions were pretty much in line with what any other CEO considered competent would have done. |

yeah, typical of a CEO to care more about share holders than employees

Looks like he sacked alot of c***s and made alot phat lewt for himself and that's about it. Thats pretty much what ceo's do or any other people in management do. They will fire as many people below them to make the company bottom line look better, hence get the bonus. They dont care about shareholders, they care about what makes them money, the dont care about the long term running of the business becuase most managers/ceo's will be gone in 5 years. The dont care that getting rid of staff will at some point backfire on the company, becuase hopefully by that time they will have gotten the bonus and pissed off, or if they are middle management they have moved on to another company. Maybe there is sometype of management that arent like that, but I havent meet any. |

No employee is ever going to be happy with a CEO, even the google staff whinge and they have it mighty fine.
Telstra wouldn't be the most hated company in the country, thats Optus, i'd lodge a complaint but i don't want to go back to their website. |

I believe that a CEO's Pay should be directly related to how many staff they have, so if they axe 1000 employees, it really hurts their pay packet. It would make them think of other ways to save money at least.

Call centre chick got a mouth full of abuse when she took me off hold. f*** Optus. |

TIO sorts out issues like that real quickly, it costs optus about $400 everytime someone files a TIO complaint
just to investigate it. |

I think he did ok
He made a bad judgment call on the NBN, and perhaps this is politically an acceptable way for the T to get back in on 'the process', so both sides save face. While he didn't get rid of as much dead wood as I'd hoped, I think the internal transformation projects have made good progress. Maybe that was going to happen anyway, but he can claim it. Their big issue is probably the depreciation & usable life on the systems and hardware installed; they're not doing much right now cos' the access layer is in limbo. |

'a bad judgement' on the biggest infrastructure project Australia has ever seen?
what are you smoking he completely screwed the pooch, giving telstra no chance of winning the tender because he was too f***ing arrogant to comply in the same way as everyone else he just assumed because telstra is telstra, they'd automatically win and people would have to listen to him he's a complete joke |

He made a bad judgment call on the NBN I don't know much about what they proposed (despite working at Telstra), but didn't he do an Apple and ultimately it backfired? |

I'm glad he's going (not that I have anything to do with Telstra). Seeing his ugly mug in the media made me sad. He just looks so dodgy.
