MTV have a vaguely interesting interview with id Software's John Carmack talking about some of the things they have on their plate at the moment, looking at cross-platform development of Rage (PS3 is a bit slower, Xbox 360 version will be multiple discs), Carmack's interest in the Wii, Wolfenstein RPG coming for the iPhone (and possibly Quake 3), digital distribution and a snippet on Doom 4 and Wolfenstein.

I'd rather have Doom on the iPhone I reckon

Basic original Doom would probably be better because of the simpler inputs (ie. no looking up and down, jumping or ducking).

yeh that's what I was thinking - Q3'd be really hard with the limited input options on the iPhone, but Doom 3 might be doable. I saw a Quake port on an iPhone and it seemed OK though i think once you got into the up/down environments it'd be pretty hard.

Carmack , isnt about time he tried to do something different ?
How many times is he going to remake the same game ?

"RAGE is an all-new take on the first person shooter being developed for release on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360™ system from Microsoft, PC and Mac. "

Rehashing the brands for alternate platforms is just a moneyspinner. Obviously they keep doing it because people keep buying it. By all reports that Wolf RPG thing on mobile was actually a pretty good mobile game (though not being a giant mobile-game playing newb I wouldn't bother trying it myself).

If RAGE is twice as good as doom3 was it will still be s***.

Valve are the kings of first person shooters.

Doom 3 wasn't a spectacular game, but I still don't understand everyone's obsession with Valve and Half Life.

I found Half Life 2 to be even more boring than Doom 3, though I must say Episodes One and Two were much more enjoyable for some reason.

Half life 2 dragged on towards the end. With that said it was nowhere near as tedious as doom 3. Doom 3 had some cool parts, but they were few and far between. Playing alpha labs eleventybillion as an intergalactic mr fixit didn't do it for me.

Doom 3 should of been nothing more than upgrade of Doom 1. Different levels sure but same basic principal. I'm sick of objective based FPS games which sadly is most of them these days. No I don't want to kill/shut down/blow up X object/person. I want to kill a lot of bad guys and do it with awesome guns. Please give us back simpler games where getting to the end of the level was awesome enough to keep us entertained for years

Quake3 on the Wii seems like a no-brainer to me

You would think an ok FPS multiplayer game on the wii would be a no brainer....

It's sad that Rage will be held back on the PC due to console limitations. But as long as other devs can take full advantage of the engine for pc centric games it will be fine.
