Well, SF4 is out. Looks purty.

Unfortunately the local bestbuy hasn't hooked it up to the net; so, it's difficult to judge effectively how good SF4 is as a multiplayer game, given most games today would be online.

If you remember the 200ms skatathon quake days, you could adjust your play for that, but with a reaction game like SF I'm not too sure of this. Even if it's 50ms, is that too much?

If anyone has played it online, let us know what you think!

It is a brilliant tactic on behalf of the developers to further the multiplayer aspects of the SF series - instead of now just having to scrub the control pad to win, you also need to account for poor latency

Pure genius really

The 360 d-pad is by far the worth d-pad I've ever used, up and down don't work half the time.

Seth is such a cheap c***, worst boss ever.

Also, for anyone wanting an arcade stick, looks like they're gonna have to be imported :( I checked JB, EB, Harvey Norman, even Myer and Target and none of them had sticks or had any plans to get them in. The EB guy even went so far as to say he doesn't think the Streetfighter IV sticks are even going to be released in Australia. JB had a very limited number of the $250 tournament sticks on their website, but none of the cheaper, more affordable ones :(

I think I'll do the old 7 day rental from EB. Not sure if SF4 will hold my attention for long enough. Looks nice though.

awesome game, looks sexc, love the gameplay.. Playing over the net has surprisingly been flawless for me. Just choose to challenge players with yellow to green bars and she'll be apples..

Only thing is, I have nfi how to play this game properly.. back years ago when everyone was insane about street fighter on the snes/megadrive, I was 24/7 into the Mortal Kombat :/ Are there any strategy type magazines out for SF4?? or is the little booklet that came with the game sufficient?

^ Use your focus attack mid combo (using medium kick & medium punch) to break their guard. You can even cancel your specials & EX specials into a focus attack. If the opponent is starting to catch on the fact that you're breaking their guard with a focus attack you can cancel your focus attack and follow up with a special, super, ultra, you name it.

I love how simple the game is yet there is still a lot of technicality behind for those looking for deeper gameplay.

You gotta charge your focus all the way up to level 3 for it to break blocks though, which takes a few seconds, which surely gives a smart opponent time to react? I don't really know, I'm probably in the same boat as Martz, I played a fair bit of Streetfighter 2 back in the day, but I was never 'hardcore', and probably ended up more on the MK side of the fence. SFIV is f***ing awesome though, and it makes me want to learn all the ins and outs of the game, but so far I'm really just using special moves and a few basic combos, I feel like I've only just scratched the surface.

Nah you don't have to charge it all the way up. The 1st level is a normal hit, the 2nd level crumples the opponent and the third level crumples the opponent and also gives you hyper armor, meaning you could take an extra hit to allow your move to follow through (unless the opponent does certain special moves to break the hyper armor). That's where you gotta make the choice for how long to hold it down, whether it's quick enough just to release a focus attack to try and break their guard or long enough to take a hit to follow up with your own move. Your opponent also has to be quick in blocking, knowing when to attack and with what move to break your hyper armor. I'm still trying to get the hang of it but at the moment I'm concentrating on unlocking some of the characters.

how to unlock characters, just play through the arcade mode?? Havn't played it enough.. Hurry up HORI and release more HRAP3's :/ gamepad is uber gay for special moves/combo's :'(

Matchfixer, I got it on PS3.. All my peeps got ps3's so that's what I bought (60GB version off ebay)..

I reckon they should make it so ps3 users can play online against xbox users and throw pc into the mix there too.. It annoys me just like DVD regions etc. Is there a problem with this I'm missing?

Because xbox games use xbox live for all the matchmaking and setting up games. The games themselves are played peer to peer, but since all the matchmaking happens on Live, the PS3 version would need access to Live to be able to join games.

Its not out of the realm of possibility for the PC version to be able to play against the 360 version though, if SF4 is a games for windows live game on PC when it comes out.

How is that even possible?

Its not, just an unhappy co-incidence :(

Yeah, I'm sure the game didn't actually cause the issue, it just happened to break right after I booted up SF4. I think I'm just gonna take the game back to JB and swap it for the PS3 version.

Pretty sure that's Frank:
Vietnam War veteran turned store manager at Electronics Boutique; although he has been referred to as working at Software Etc in different strips. He is based on the manager of the NorthTown Mall Software Etc. in Spokane, WA during 1998. Frank, who is somewhat mentally unstable, often intimidates customers and deflects their complaints or questions with surreal stories about patrolling (and losing his leg) in the jungles of Southeast Asia. He has asked for Gabe's pants on at least two occasions. He also once crucified customers in front of his shop. In the most recent strips, he has been fighting off zombies inside of a mall (the zombies are there due to the release of the game Dead Rising) with his M16 rifle, Mabel.[20] He is shown in the next strip as being ready to assault the patrons of an Apple store, mistaking them for zombies. He is, however, warded off by Charles. [21]

s*** hey.. it's a good thing i bought trin's copy. Once i get CD WOW's i'm sending that s*** straight back to em.

Ok with Ken:

Jump heavy kick
Standing medium punch
Standing Heavy Punch
Shoryuken (or hadaucken)
Cancel into Super Shoryuken
As you're opponent is still in the air quickly do your Revenge/Ultra Move before he lands (this is where the hits rack up).

I think the above is in one of ken's challenge mode tasks (except they don't get you to do the Revenge/Ultra move at the end).

Add me to the "s*** I suck now" list. Played SF2 in arcades, but not anything hardcore (more into shmups). With the 'always online' battle mode I'm finding out that almost everyone can churn out specials and ultras while I'm still getting to grips with the new characters.

If anyone wants an easy win on the PS3, add me: VRBones

f***ing oath, his moves are ridiculous. I don't know how many times I restarted before giving up and turning it off. Even the one time I have beat him was a total fluke.

^ Try using sweep kicks to know him down and follow it up with the focus attack to hit him as soon as he gets up. Don't always jump in because his tripple uppercut will hurt you. Don't get too close either otherwise he'll just grab you and pile drive you to the ground. When you bash him enough he'll build up his revenge meter and will use his ultra attack on you soon after so be prepared to jump it. Since he's almost always going to give you a beating you're going to have to use your own revenge/ultra move on him to catch up in the round. Oh and make sure you set it to 1 round and on the easiest setting if you want to have a chance at unlocking some of the characters (fei long is a must!). The rest of it is just instinct and a bit of luck.

This sentence right here shows why this is such poor game design. Easiest setting should be easy.

Is there any other way to unlock all of the characters? I have zero interest in ever fighting this cheap c*** again. Totally sucks the fun out of the game.

I'm expecting to get it in the next few days so if you still can't get it for under 90 i'll be happy to sell you mine (in shrink wrap) for the price that i bought it from CD wow.

unfortunately you'll just have to do it the hard way, and when i say the hard way i really mean THE HARD WAY:

To get Akuma:

* Unlock all previous characters
* Lose no rounds.
* Get at least two perfect rounds.
* Win at least two fights with ultra combos.

AND if you want to unlock Gouken:

* Complete Arcade Mode with Akuma.
* Lose no rounds.
* Get at least two perfect rounds.
* Win at least three fights with ultra combos.

I'll be working on getting Akuma tonight...

edit2: Ah s***, just realised you had to beat him with Akuma :/

edit3: gouken unlocked.. so it's not as hard as i thought it'd be.

I've seen videos of different characters "absorbing" fireballs... How the f*** they do that? looks like a focus attack but without the attack if you get what I mean. when I try to do it with say Ken, he absorbs the fireball so to speak but continues through with the round house kick.. argh

Okay, I've found the cheatiest way to unlock Akuma (once you've unlocked all of the others before him). Get Bison, and just hold down and mash strong kick, so he does that slide thing. I beat Seth this way and got perfect.

I tried it again to get Gouken, but, I didn't realise that you needed to have finished arcade mode once with Akuma first, so he didn't unlock after fighting him. I've got him now though. Only one left to unlock is Seth.

When you're charging a focus attack, you can dash (double tap forwards or back) to cancel out of it. As I understand it, people do it at the start of the match, to build up your revenge meter, because it builds up even if the attack is absorbed by your hyper armour.

Yeah, I didn't find the analogue controller *too* bad, my biggest problem with it though was when I'm moving the stick through its bottom right corner, my thumb get really close to the dpad. If my thumb has moved a bit on the stick or slipped a bit, or I'm rushing through a move trying to get it off quick, half the time my thumb hits the top of the dpad and makes me jump :(

Has anyone here tried playing online? I don't know if it's just the PS3 version, but pretty much everyone has terrible latency. It doesn't seem to be limiting searches to Australian servers. How is it on 360?

Whilst playing arcade mode i too was challenged for an online match several times and it was smooth as silk. Though when i went through the ranked/player matches it was dog balls. I couldn't find a way to restrict it to Australian servers either, which sucks more dog balls.

ctd, i just got my 2nd copy of SF4 from CD WOW. Are you only playing the game based on eb games' "7 day return policy"?
