All the gas lift chairs I've ever owned have all just leaked out the gas, none have gone boom. There's something weird about those pictures though, the top looks like it was blown to pieces while the bottom just looks like the fabric stuff was a bit damaged. I call shenanigans or a prank gone wrong.

I think you should look again whoop, specifically look in the middle of the bottom of the chair. Besides if you read the article it says that the chair pictured is not the chair in the incident, just another chair that had its cylinder explode.
