Has anyone here modded their 360? I don't have any interest in playing 'backups,' I just want to be able to play imported region-locked games. I've read that you can just flash the firmware of your drive, and it will allow you to play imports and still get onto Xbox Live provided you're playing an original game. Does this mean that you can play imported games online too, as long as they're legit?
I hate being raped up the arse with prices and release fates just because publishers seem to hate the PAL territories, but I certainly don't want to risk being banned from Live. |

Modding the dvd firmware only tells the drive to allow dvdr's. So you would still only be able to play PAL.
I guess it's the actual xbox firmware that region checks. *Also, I think changing xbox firmware can result in a brick if the device ever does an official update. last edited by Tarentagore at 17:18:03 11/Feb/09 |

Lame. So there's no way to play imports? Even with a mod chip?

i've bought & played NTSC games from Play Asia with no probs. most new TV's can handle either.....so i don't think that's the prob.
you just need to make sure they're "region free" which is different. and at Play Asia they provide notes on your selection to advise this. |

Yeah, it's not the TV that's the problem, it's the region coding. There's a few games I want to get that aren't in Australia or Europe, and are region locked, so I was kind of hoping that somewhere, somebody had sussed it out.

Unfortunately afaik, there's no current way to play region locked US or Japanese games on a PAL console.
The only good news is that some US/JP only games are region free. There's a few lists out there that can help you figure out which. http://gaming.wikia.com/wiki/Region_Free_Xbox_360_Games http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-00-3-xbox360_compatibility_guide-49-en.html |
