Hey guys,
Got a XPS1530 and want to run TV out. having some difficulty. Got a 4-pin s-video to RCA out and plug it into my tv. It cant detect a tv connected. It works on TV alone when i select that through nvidia control centre, but not on dual display. I can only seem to run dual display if i (whilst using tv only) select monitor 2 and say attached and then apply and then monitor 2 becomes my laptop. Very friggin frustrating... It seems that the 4-pin has the ability to work in 7-pin socket, but maybe the remaining pins have something to do with detection and therfore the nvideo control panel wont allow it to work. If I just use windows and say that the second monitor is connected and select the right res/refresh, nothing happens (maybe its trying through the dsub out or the HDMI out? Or maybe once again nvideo control panel is interfering?). Anyone know how I might solve my problems? Maybe uninstall nvideo control panel, but then i may have problems with it being bundled to the driver for the card... Cheers guys |

Not an option, its for watching movies off my laptop through a tv. Sadly, RCA is still the golden standard for connections tho it may be shifting to HDMI now.
New info: When i attach the second monitor in the display properties section it does not work, but then when i go into advanced options and select the same res in a dif colour (high colour or true) it then turns the tv on. After which both screens are working, and i can change back to the old colour scheme whatever it was. When i stop extending the desktop onto it and turn it on again, it does not work. i.e. Need to change the colour in advanced settings again... |

I dunno man most newer tvs, well flat panels anyway, come with HDMI ports. Mine has 2 of them. You're probably trying to run the wrong rez & your TV just can't handle it. Are you using clone or span mode? edit: Actually, what happens if you tick the force tv detection box? last edited by whoop at 22:05:04 29/Dec/08 |

Tried that, doesn't detect TV but then gives the option to turn it on anyway. Set the res to 720 x 480 which is the res that it runs at when the tv alone is selected.
I've given up. stupid delldo |

Don't blame your terrible tv on the laptop. Get some HDMI.

^^I'd blame the TV too or svideo - rca converter cable coz my laptop can output to svideo just fine using an 8700M video card though I do use HDMI instead coz it's better :D
I've only got a 4 pin plug on both my TV and laptop, my TV tuner card in my main PC had a massive svideo plug but it was a/v IN so the other pins were for audio and I suspect that's why you've got a 7 pin plug on the laptop the 4 normal ones are for video and the extras are audio out. |
