Hello, I work 7 days a week so don't really have the chance to shop around atm while sales are on and need DSC opinions. I have a Sony H1 which is light and 12x optical zoom yet kind of large so I'm after a smaller camera (not 'micro') to take out and about easier. Preferred specs would be 6-8MP, at least 5x optical zoom and a 2.5-3.0in LCD.

I know most of you guys rave about Ixus cams but they are generally quite tiny right? And to get one with a decent zoom you pay a fair bit? I'd prefer something a little bit bulkier but still thin enough to fit into my jeans pocket. I'm looking at the Sony DSCW150B - click onto W150 - 8.1MP, 2.7in LCD and 5x OZ. I reckon I could get it with a 4GB stick at JB for $250 (Sony T77 and T700 are awesome but out of price range as are Ixus cameras with similar specs by the looks of it). I'm still keeping them in mind tho as well as Nikon Coolpix S60 - my sisters have these and they take great pics and video and are so easy to use but do have a couple annoyances.

I'm mainly after your experience with Ixii as it seems everyone loves them.

Also, does anyone know if the video modes and the editing software is/are any good (for Sony/Canon/Nikon) as from my experience Sony software suites suck balls.

Edit: does optical zoom make that much of a difference if you have say 10MP resolution?

ixus 70 owner signing in;

ill report on the moofies feature, it really suprised me, with how good it is:

great sound, great picture

only issue ive got with my canon, is lately the camera hasnt been able to write moofies to the memory card, it stays busy for ages, finishes, but then we cant upload the moofie to the pc;

i reformatted the memory card and did some quick tests and it was ok, will do a longer moofie test to see if thats fixed it sooner or later;

YES! Digital zoom is s*** no matter how awesome your megapixel count is. If you plan on zooming in on stuff optical is better.

My brother bought himself some sort of nikon point & shoot camera, he loves it but I don't know what model it was sorry :(

If you want a little bigger than your pocket cameras look at the Canon G10, or the Canon SX10IS.

Personally I went for something bigger again and picked up a Canon 450D :D

If you're after something that will fit in your jeans pocket, the IXUS aren't that thin... I've got an ixus 80 and I wouldn't want any thicker for a pocket. I think the likes of the G10 would be too big.

Me too, such a sweet camera! Loving the image stabilisation in the lens.

Even better since Myer price matched CA and knocked $200 off, haha.

I went too myer but I went on the northside and their new policy is only price match local area....but then I went with CA the next day and got it less than their advertised price :)

And yes, f***ing sweet sweet camera...went and got some nice filters for it today.

What did you get? I went 2x Hoya Pro1D UV ($66 ea) for the twin lenses.. mainly just for protection from scratches, dust and fingerprints. They're a bitch to clean but seem to be working great - plus I'm not so worried about the lens as much anymore thanks to it :)

But .. I somehow managed to get a heap of dust (and sand!) on the sensor itself, couldn't get it off with air.

Here's f/36 or f/22 (can't remember): link

Took it to Canon and he cleaned it up for free (usually $50), much better: link

From now I'm on changing lenses strictly indoors, camera facing down, cleaning the lens and body surfaces prior.
