Topic: My computer keeps restarting itself

When I turn my computer on and Windows loads up, after about 5 seconds the machine resets. Over and over again.

I can boot it in safe mode just fine.

The only recent things I've done to it recently are:

* Folding@Home suddenly turned up in my processes thing, and Im like what the f*** is that Im not folding for anyone, so I disabled it using that Autoruns program, as well as a couple of other things like the iTunes helper and Punkbuster and stuff. I've since re-enabled them and the problem is still here

* I turned on auto-updates for like the first time ever so I think i'm onto SP3 now or something. Oh and apparently I was the victim of software counterfeiting but it was all a big misunderstanding and I found a way around the warning messages. That was a while ago now and there haven't been any problems until now

This computer is old as hell and I've got half a mind just to trash it and buy a pre-built system from umart or something. If its something really obvious I've done wrong let me know so I can have myself a merry xmas plz

Best wishes!

Fixed.

Definitely sounds like either a hardware or software problem. For sure.

Yeah, I agree generally - don't trust me. However, this time you should judging by your problem. Otherwise, you can go google 'combofix' and find a more reliable source than me.

When your computer software cracks the s***s in my experience its better just to backup then format. Once it's rooted its rooted and even after fixing things the system never seems to be the same.

Just out of curiosity, under Start up and Recovery settings under System is the Automatically Restart box checked?

I had s***ty video drivers once and they caused my computer to randomly restart when ever they caused a conflict. Unchecked that little box and problem solved, at least if it was still there it didn't f***ing restart my machine anymore.

in the process of running a virii scanner to root out any traces of the first virus it found some more virii

Did you try ComboFix? Seriously, that is the best thing I've ever found. My boss keeps clicking on those stupid "Your computer is running slow. Click here to fix it." popups and installing random crap. So far ComboFix has found all of it for me.
