For some reason I can't access to my QGL profile manager to change my sig or anything, it just takes me to the ausgamers profile.

whats the deal?

That's where you change your profile now.

some of the management stuff is migrating to AusGamers so we don't have to manage two separate interfaces, but basically everything else will stay the same

continuing the AG vs QGL forum debate from the Arab banking thread:
Out of curiosity, are there any major differences between the two? I have used both and only noticed a layout/colour theme difference (and the aforementioned issue of different links/buttons on each)

The AG codebase is way nicer, but realistically it makes little difference to the end user. There might be slight performance improvements in general as it also runs on much faster hardware.

Aside from the colours and style though, there's no real major differences, although we're planning some feature extensions that will prolly only be available from there.

Personally I would like to get everyone to move over but its not something we're going to force; I just want to get it good enough so that everyone likes the AG ones more. So any suggestions or comments are hugely appreciated.

I realise the dark dark colours of QGL are a big deal for some people though (my eyes screamed a bit when I made the switch to AG but I'm so used to it now; QGL just seems dark and drab).

Here's a list of all the reasons I can think of why people would prefer to stay w/ QGL:

1) the preferred colour scheme
2) the full width browsing experience
3) overall page layout (QGL forums site a teeny bit higher in the page than the AG forums)

Anything else?

Yeah pretty much what you've listed trog. I really can't stand AG style, I have tried but I can't get use to it :(

I think maxe nailed it. A pity how change is an important part of life. Where I used to camp is now a bunch of houses.

I dont like having different area's, eveything should be in one place, like in qgl.

trog - introduce 'themes' to the AG forums and people might switch i.e. 'retro qgl' scheme and the old timers might switch.

personally I like the qgl colours

The general forum on AG is still everything in the one place.

In it's current form, i suppose you can think of the subforums as kind of filters for the general one. This may or may not change somewhat as work continues though.

Yep, that one's definitely top of my wishlist.

edit: ^^I actually like "sub forums", they keep everything I like to read neatly organised. Usually I just like reading the "general" sub section of any given forum but on occasion I'll wander into the hardware/software sections for interesting stuff (trog: see my list in the qgl private forum :p) or perhaps a photography sub forum to see some cool pictures people have taken and get pointers on taking awesome pictures.

Personally I would like to get everyone to move over but its not something we're going to force; I just want to get it good enough so that everyone likes the AG ones more. So any suggestions or comments are hugely appreciated.

Like heardy said, themes. Also make those themes able to select oldskool qgl full screen styles or new web2.0 style for those who seem to like looking at a thin strip of text in the middle of their screen.
The colours on the ausgamers version of the forums I can stand and put up with but not the layout, not on this screen anyway.

One thought, since you can do pretty much anything with a greasemonkey script, or user css in opera/firefox is it possible to create a script or something that changes the layout of ausgamers forums to stretch them out to full screen? Obviously this would be a script running in my own browsers not interfering with the way other people view qgl.

edit: question about PM's, does the same html formatting that applies in the forums work there? links, bold, italics, etc?

+1

setup a redirect from qgl.ausforums.com that goes to AG. keep the Qgl colors and full width layout as default, and offer alternatives later.

you could have moved it by now, and 90% of peeps would never have realised the difference

Just for fun I wrote a GreaseMonkey script to do stretchable layout on AG forum.

// ==UserScript==
// @name AusGamers Forum
// @namespace AG Forum
// @include *
// ==/UserScript==

var all = document.all ? document.all :
document.getElementsByTagName('*');
for (var e = 0; e < all.length; e++)
if(all[e].className == "RightSide") {
all[e].style.width="85%";
} else if (all[e].className == "Body") {
all[e].style.width="100%";

}

e = document.getElementById('Document')
e.style.width="100%";
e = document.getElementById('Frame')
e.style.width="100%";

I love you.

I'm trying to think what the ausgamers forum colours remind me of, I'm thinking early planet* colours (gamespy forums). I think it's all that green.

Trog could get lazy and just post this gm script up with instructions on how to install it and another one (or mod this one) to change the colours instead of changing the code of the forums :p

edit: Posted this from ausgamers and it STILL shows my old avatar, even after I've updated it, what gives. Also why does my post limiter stop me from EDITING this post? AG forum code is bugged yo.

Why is the option to have a reply box at the bottom of the page removed? "Because ausgamers already has one" isn't a good answer.

QGL Colours in the form of a greasemonkey script.
I provide no warranty either expressed or implied. Use this script at your own risk.

To use it you'll need GreaseMonkey first, once that's installed just click the link above and when prompted click install (or you can review the script source first if you wish).

I will admit I'm a CSS noob and this is the first GM script I've ever hacked together so it's probably not all that pretty and it doesn't make it look EXACTLY like qgl but hell, play around with it and make everything pink for all I care because it's client side only the end user can see the results :)

EDIT: ****UPLOADED NEW VERSION WHICH NOW COVERS THE NOTICE BOX NEXT TO THE POST REPLY CONTAINER AND CHANGED A FEW OTHER THINGS****

v2:
Changed background colour of the title bar to black
Changed URL links to be a different colour to normal text (how the hell I missed that I don't know)
Changed text colour in the small notice box to the right of the reply box to black so it's readable without highlighting
Other misc colour/formatting changes.

Now with screenshots

Not so much a problem more of an oddity. Why does the edit post buttom move the post a reply button? Why not keep all the reply buttons in line and have the edit post button to the left of it?

I can see maybe 60% of people's avatars (assuming everyone has one). I can't see my own either.

The avatar stuff is, apparently, still all screwy and I'm not 100% sure why, I'll chase it up

I'm wondering if it's some sort of minimum-post requirement, cause I can't see anyones avatar under 1000 posts - that or something to do with newer members.

As I said previously the AusGamers forums avatars are still linking to http://www.ausforums.com/images/avatars/...
whereas newly uploaded avatars are going to http://www.ausgamers.com/images/avatars/... (which the rest of the ag site references correctly - ie. at the top of the page and in the account settings screen)

This looks silly, post reply buttons not all in line
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm190/pointyfork/qgl/th_dumb.jpg

This looks much more refined, all in line.
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm190/pointyfork/qgl/th_better.jpg

Also you can see there that isn't my avatar, my avatar is meant to be some cartoon thing with a red hat on. It's correct if I view the QGL forums but here on Ausgamers it's that stupid old avatar from ages ago.
