Hi,
Me and a few mates have been going to a few pizza-type restaurants around the south side, looking to find the holy grail. So far we have tried: -Elio's at Carina (was pretty good) -Earth and Sea at Coorparoo (not that great) -Sugo Mi at Balmoral (not that great) Is there any decent places around this area to try? |

you have already been to the best - Elios. Hmm yeah well when we went, the meatlovers type pizza we had was pretty epic, but the other supremeish type one was not that great. |

There's an Earth and Sea on Oxford St too. They have epic Pizzas there but you obviously did not approve, Alt_F4.

Ribbets, probably more for the ribs than the pizza, but the pizza is still good.

Make a jump to the awesome side and go to UQ Pizza Cafe .. I can't think of anything south of the river that would match it.

I used to like Pancho's on Oxford St but it's better for take-away anyway. I find the dining-in experience isn't great: slow service, extremely noisy kitchen, usually loud customers.
Make a jump to the awesome side and go to UQ Pizza Cafe I'm not that thrilled with their pizzas anymore. Bit expensive for such thin pizza. |

Panchos is like the remains of the old bulimba when it was the worst suburb in town.

Ribbets, probably more for the ribs than the pizza, but the pizza is still good. I wouldn't say so.. i thought all the food there was fairly average.. Except the pasta... it was s***.. Ribs were okay... but seriously that place is talked up far too much. |

i loved ribbets when i was living at west end... they knew our household so well the delivery driver would pick up beer & groceries for us on the way :D even then though i'd agree with joanna that teh pizza n pasta was pretty bad but i always loved the ribs! i got a woeful dose of food poisoning from a ravioli once though... still didnt put me off the ribs but i'd never get pasta from there. they've prolly changed hands several times since then though.

yeah the pasta at ribbets is pretty average, I dont get the pasta. The ribs are still awesome and the peperoni pizza is pretty damm good.
My parents used to own pizzaman at moorooka years back, that was awesome pizza, only place that I have found that was as good was a place down the coast. |

Good bottleo, but f***ing expensive. There's two more on Oxford St worth checking out if you're after something cheaper.

My wife used to work at Ribbetts years ago, and she said she'd never eat there based on what went on in the kitchen.

I remember ordering Ribbetts while drinking with friends at 2am or something. It was pretty bland pizza iirc, even when drunk. I guess you can't expect much at that time in the morning though.

I remember ordering Ribbetts for a pizza, being told it was something like $50 for a pizza and ended up walking the 2 minutes to Dominos for a $9.95 special.

dominoes shouldnt even be mentioned in a good pizza thread, there is no possible time when dominoes is good pizza.

hell pizza is not bad, pricey but not overly so for a pizzeria
be that as it may it's a bit wasteful putting thread in the title of a thread |

Personally, I could go for some Mexican right about now so if I was on the southside, I would go to Montezuma's (?sp) near Garden City (along Logan Road).
Failing that, there is a great Thai place over in Whites Hill/Carina, right next to a bottleo and 7-11/other 24 hour type of store. If you told me the name I would remember it but couldn't be bothered looking it up atm. |

We made some kick ass pizzas, salmon with a mustard cream cheese base, capers and dill on it. yum. manager had no idea. was her 3rd attempt at a busniess. Id say itd be gone now. |

I had a tandoori chicken pizza from Toscani’s at Garbo last night and f*** it was nice. I think they only have about 4 different pizzas to choose from though.
Also, Elio's rocks extremely hard. Their Tortellini Carbonara kicks some serious ass! |
