my brother has an ipod problem and wants me to ask around about this.
His laptop hard drive crashed and now he needs a way to actually get to his music on the ipod.
He's found some software that comes with free trials etc... but is a bit sus on it all.
Any recommendations?

Your brother sounds sus. Like he's involved in a piracy racket.

just copy the raw files off when it shows up as a hard drive or USB drive

then put it all in c:\f***ed
add c:\f***ed to a new itunes library and turn on 'keep my music files in a library for me' function, it will automagically rename them and shiz

So does this laptop run Windows or an Apple OS?

I use Winamp to copy music off my iPod, haven't tested it with DRM stuff. Find the song in the Winamp Library, right click it and do copy to local media.

Tequilas on the money. Since iTunes auto categorises and renames the files to their track names in artist/album/ folders just copy the fudged name mp3s straight off I(pod):/iPod_Control/Music (hidden folder)

I've had my hard drive with all my music on it crash, so am going to use one of these programs to salvage what I can. I've mucked around with a few of them very quickly, but not long enough to have a good go. Out of curiousity, are there any that will transfer songs to your computer and put them into Artist/Album folders for you? From what I have done so far is just transfers them folderless.
