Topic: Looking for a Thai restaurant

Hey guys, as the topic mentions, I'm looking for a really good Thai restaurant on Brisbane's southside preferably, but will cross the river if I have to. I've never had Thai in my life, and have no idea what to expect so that's why I'm asking for opinions.

This is on the Northside - but I still highly recommend it. Thai Ayuthaya on Gympie Road. Think it's classed as Kedron along there. Fantastic meals. Especially recommend their Pad Kati. I get it every time. Oh, and their satay chicken skewers are amazing

Modern Thai on the corner of Logan and Creek is excellent... I went in there recently, and was pleasently suprised. I believe the do takeaway as well.

Otherwise, there is a Thai Orchid next to McDonalds on logan rd at Mt Gravatt.

Thai Pochana Cafe on Oxford St in Bulimba is nice.

If you have a month to wait and don't mind a 2 hour round trip, book into The Spirit House in Yandina :)

The Wei Rat in China Town ftw
PS. Maseri Thai in Moorooka is great for take away, not much of a sit down experience though.

I've tried quite a few different thai places and I have found the Thai Mali in Coorparoo/Camp Hill on bennetts road is the best.

Order the following if you going with a few peeps:

Tom Ka Ga I believe it is with chicken.. (Lemon grass and coconut soup..)
Stir fry prawns and vegies with Cashew nut prawns.
Also get the Roast Duck with the honey soy sauce..

it's decent thai. last week i found AWESOME thai.
tom yum goong, 336 ipswich rd annerley. always empty, possibly due to poor music choice/location but i haven't had curry that mouthwateringly awesome in the last ten years, since patcharin thai on hardgrave rd in west end was actually run by patcharin. get the salmon curry, on the specials menu.

also, their tom yum goong is awesome. and portions are nicely sized.

for anyone in clay field there is a little dodgey looking place called 'thai pumin' on the main drag on sandgate road which i discovered on saturday night, i was like this is probably going to be crap and it turned out really good they have the f***ing awesome coconut rice thats pretty much good enough to eat as a dessert on it's own and the panang was awesome. better than thai ayuthaya in kedron which is my normal place.

That Tom Yum Goong is our local Thai.

So whenever I get Thai (although I love Thai, it isn't that often) I get it from there. Generally it's pretty good, consistent, but I'm surprised it has lasted as long as it has.

The 'shopping' centre thing that it's in is always empty so I can't imagine they do much trade.

thai kusinee on gympie road in Strathpine is delicious but that's just a little bit out of your way, theirs also an excellent Indian and an Italian restaurant next to it. is handy cause I live round the corner :)

Yeah the night we found it we were on our way to Thai on High, but decided to go in as we drove past. I was completely sceptical (never buy food from an empty restaurant) but tried it and loved it. But yeah that complex never has any cars in the car park or anything.

Forest Lake one is really good, but not really worth the price
Thai Palace at St Lucia - used to be good, not as good anymore, bit average
Theres one at Oxley which is pretty nice (its on Oxley Road)

The main reason I am posting though is on Sat night I had quite not too bad Thai, for stupidly cheap prices.

St Lucia, 2 shops down from Nando's on Mitre St, really really good value. Got a green curry + rice + 4 spring rolls + prawn crackers + 2 cans of coke for $11.50 (it was 10$ minimum eftpos). Not the best thai, but for the price feaking awesome.

There's a Thai shop near my work, first one I've ever been to. Costs twice as much as food from any other place here, and the staff cbf speaking to you clearly or loudly enough, and if you ask for vodka they give you gin. So Thai food sucks as far as I'm concerned :/

One of my dad's mates is married to a Thai woman. She used to manage a restaurant in Thailand. They went to the Bangkok Milton for dinner one night, and she said that it's exactly like it is back in Thailand. It's truly awesome, but a little pricier than other places I've been to.
