Just something I stumbled on, probably old.

http://www.cracked.com/article_15660_ultimate-war-simulation-game.html

It's this guy's wishlist for a proper war sim game.

example:
Every war sim has a "Fog of War" that obscures the map in darkness until units scout the landscape. Well, I want a hazy, brown "Fog of Bulls***" layer below that. I want it to make a village of farmers look like a secret armed militia, I want it to show me a massive enemy fortress where there is actually an aspirin factory. I want to never know for sure which it was, even after the game is over.

I see what he's done there...

It would be interesting to have a game where you play through to almost the last stages, defeating enemies, only to have your own people protest against you and put uncertainty into your end goals - whether they will actually win you the game or make you lose the support of your own people

he wants more of the complications of war that we face in real wars now, media, cia, politicians, different agendas... it's meant to be satirical, but I still think the ideas would be interesting in games

don't you think it would detract from the competitive nature of the game?

This dude needs to play some Alpha Centauri.

I've been playing this game for nearly 10 years, it still blows me away how deep it is.

Great post. He should include everything that he does, the media portray negatively and just when you are about to deliver the coup de grace, public outcry results in massive funding reductions, equipment starts wearing out and not being replaced. Or being replaced by crappy cheap stuff or overpriced technologically impractical stuff. Throw embed reporters in with front line forces to show the deaths of enemy wearing civilian clothing. Not to mention scenes of overwhelming firepower against enemy with pistols and rifles.

All good stuff.
