Topic: the fallout on Far Cry 2

I have just heard that Far Cry 2 is going to be passed and given a classification.

Anyone here see the unfairness of fallout 3 being refused classification?

what the 2 games have in common- and what i feel is in question here- is the content of the game. more specifically- the methods of recuperating from injuries.

Fallout 3 has you injecting yourself with a mysterious drug that also contains morphine.
Far Cry 2 has not specified what is actually in the injections you give yourself to heal up.

Is it just me- or is this just a pure insult to Our way of gaming here in Australia? That games developers have to jump through burning hoops to be able to make games that we Australians are allowed to play?

I used to stand back from all these debates- but fallout 3 is my last stand. I have now had enough of us Australian gamers being looked at as not suited to play games with Adult content.

also i would like to introduce myself- but i will find the appropriate category for that- rather than do so here

Fallout 3 passed classification after changing the drug names, so no there is no unfairness in this comparison.

where is that news? i only found out today about the drug problem. Even if it is fixed- we still need to fix our broken classification guidelines- wouldn't you agree?

There isn't unfairness between games.

There are just a strict set of rules, the 2 main rules that get games banned in Aus are:

1. Sexual violence
2. Drug use with real world references.

GTA III got banned because you could kill a hooker after bonking her and Fallout 3 got done for using Drugs with too close a reference to the real world versions.

I think it is fair that these games have been rated higher then an M15 rating, however I think it sucks we have no R rating.

Even if we do get an R rating there will still be games banned in Aus.

EDIT:

Also Fallout 3 was changed, as you just read, however the changes apply to everyone in the World. The developers say this is because the impact to the game is minimal. In some ways it is good, psycho rings truer to fallout 1/2. They would rather people not be concerned they are missing out on something by not getting the European/US version.

You should be more pissed off with the fact that we pay MUCH more for our electronic goods in Australia because of the Australia Is Awesome Tax. I'd rather that be addressed then the ratings system.

I can see a line like that coming out of Jack Thompsons mouth "Even if gta4 didn't cause those kids to go on a rampage, it could have and that's why we need to control these games"

yes. i agree. but games like Mortal Kombat- which rated as adults only in the rest of the world is MA15+, as is all the GTA games.

plus it was GTA:SA that had the killing hookers last i checked. but then again- i never dabbled too much in GTA III- as by the time i got a ps2- GTA: Vice city came out- and i got caught up in that game

My protest is finally at how games that are normally classified as suited for adults are able to be played by children as young as 15.

It has been 5 years since my opinion changed- but when i realised how these games rated in the rest of the world- i started wanting to know why we are so different

the dispute with gta3 was that you could hold hands with a prostitute then get out and beat the s*** out of them to get your money back. it was the sexual violence mix that caused the, if i recall correctly, reclassification or resubmission.
