My mower runs for about 2-3 mins then just dies. There's plenty of fuel, oil is ok, I've cleaned filter and spark plug.

It doesn't seem to hold the revs when it running, it goes up and down up and down in revs then just dies. Then I wait an hour, then it'll start again. Won't start when it's warm.

Any ideas? My lawn is shockin at the moment :(

These days it's almost cheaper to buy a new one than to get it repaired.

Unless you can repair it yourself, which I assume is what he's asking.

2 stroke or 4?

If it has 'plenty of oil', I'd say 4 stroke.

Edit: you're right, 'oil is ok' :/

that's not what he said tho - I saw what he said about oil and wondered if it might've been nub speak for having the right type/ratio of oil in the fuel

Go buy some carby cleaner from SuperCrap or Repco and pull the filter off, give a small spray in there, start the mower and then spray more in. This should help clean out the gunk if the carby is clogged.

I assume your turning the choke off once its warm enough?

Petrol filter is likely, clean the petrol tank out and fit new petrol filter.
Possible the sparkplug coil or stator windings are faulty they can have the effect you described.

Don't listen to Spook, he knows nothing about household chores, he uses the brush setting on carpet with the vacuum cleaner and the no brush on tiles :S

do the usual cos it probably needs it anyway - new batch of fuel, new spark plug, new air filter, oil change if its a 4-stroker, have a good old poke around to ensure there's nothing say, kinking any fuel lines etc. also the other things people have mentioned too.

Sounds exactly like mine when the filter/fuel line is clogged. Pull it apart and clean it. My float thingy on the carby also gets blocked and need some small wire to poke through and fix blockages. Then you too can have lawn like this;

the bowling green look

You'd never need to fill it again, great stuff like the Warriors beating the Storm today oh and the All Blacks beating the Wallibies yesterday, both great games right to the end.

most likely air filter. remove the air filter and rinse in petrol. allow to dry. then dab a small amount of oil through the middle. of the filter and refit. should cain.
