Topic: Job opportunity - Network & Server Admin (Inner North locati...

Hey guys,

The company I work for are starting to look for another server/network admin. We're a managed services company, meaning that we monitor, administer and maintain clients' networks and servers.

At this stage, we're not necessarily insisting that you have a degree or industry certifications etc, but you need to be a fast learner, eager to expand your knowledge of server hardware and operating systems (primarily SBS2003, Server 08, Exchange 2003 & 2007 and soon-to-be-released SBS2008).

Obviously, pay is commensurate with experience, so if you're really interested in computers etc but don't have any experience, you probably won't be on the same salary as someone whose past achievements include designing PIPE Networks' transcontinental fibre link (as an example) :P

TLDR version:

What: Need lackey/underling etc (company lackey/underling, not personal :()

Why: Business expanding

Where: Inner north (plenty of free parking)

Who: Computer enthusiasts through to server/network gurus

Pay: Not really my forte to say, but probably (note, *PROBABLY*) between $35k-$55k depending on your skills and experience

Doing what: Maintaining servers and networks, new site deployments, accounts administration (user accounts, not financial accounts).

Shoot me a PM if you're interested, I'm happy to pass on all CVs to the boss.

wouldn't that be a junior position? you should put that in thread title.

I would've but it's not necessarily a junior one. We'll consider anyone from a junior right through to a seriously experienced admin. The range of work we do is fairly broad, so even if you start out as a "junior", you won't stay that way for long :)

Tell your HR department to stop paying junior rates. Even at the top range of $55k for an experienced sys admin is pulling the chain a little.

It's a small company, not somewhere like Data #3 or Mincom. As such, we can't afford ridiculously high salaries at this stage without crippling the business.

Besides which, as I said, it's *PROBABLY* around that figure. In other words, it's a guesstimate because people whinge and bitch if there isn't a price tag attached to it (regardless of how arbitrary that figure truly is).

Hah Mincom.. they also can't pay ridiculously high or even market rates for sys admin jobs.

I'd say for this job you'd be wanting 40-45k for a junior and 60-65k for a senior (+super, mobile, laptop, etc).

Nono... they can, they just don't :)

Well, if you submit an application, I'm sure you can talk to my boss about it and let him know what you think is fair :)

Edit: Ticman does raise a good point though, I forgot to mention that this salary figure doesn't include super, a laptop, mobile and car allowance (if you need to visit clients etc).
