iitalk is iinet VOIP service...

good cheap all in one

Billion 7401VGPM $132

Billion 7404VGPM Annex-M Capable VOIP ADSL2+ Wireless-G Router
$179

the 7404 has 2 ports so if you want to plug in more then 1 phone...

hi le cock
i have iinet naked dsl and use iitalk. iitalk, as mentioned, is just iinet's name for their voip service. it is just bog stock voip.
i started with the std non-wireless iinet issue 4-port router. worked fine. i've used their wireless 4-port routers and they work well too.

i now have a Billion 7404VGPM ($175 from MSY) as i run 2xVoip services (what the iinet-badged belkins can't do) and it is the best.

Don't you get free local and national calls on iitalk (to a limit which no one will ever tell you) where as on iinet voip you have to pay for all calls?

Otherwise it's exactly the same.

The confusing thing is that iinet have iitalk as well as voip. iitalk you get free local and national calls, but on their voip you don't. Thanks for explaining.

Mr Hardware, when you say you have 2xVoip services, how does that work? Do you have 2 different voip phone numbers running through the same line? Are they both iitalk or iinet voip or is one through another company (can you do that?)

Lastly, can you use a fax through iitalk/voip?

Billion 7401VGPM $132 sounds like the go for me, I don't even know what annex-m is and I only need one phone.

Thanks all.

Yeah iitalk is the bundled service with naked DSL to make the deal even sweeter.

Yeah I have two voip phone numbers, one is my iitalk number and the other is a pennytel one. Two ports on the back, two different handsets (okay, i've actually got five, but that's by the by)
Lastly, can you use a fax through iitalk/voip?
only if you've got a modem that supports T.38 i believe. I know the 7404VGP-M does.

Hardware, what's the advantage of Pennytel? Is it cheaper or something, or do you just need 2 numbers for work or something?

Hi Stez
yes i do need the second number for work - and pennytel is only 10c/min for mobiles rather than 30c/min.

you dont need 2 ports if you want 2 VSP accounts... you can still do it with one port.... the good thing about two ports is though you can ring someone else even though your gf is on the phone with someone else..

TiT speaks the truth.
It's just a bucket load easier to have two ports to separate one from the other.

you can also put calling rules in... eg... for local calls use iitalk and for mobile phone and international calls use pennytel...

Thanks Martz.

Voip is working but the people I call are reporting an echo on the line. Are there any settings to fix?

people seem to suggest checking your volume settings... not too loud.

Ok I'll try that mongie thanks.

Also, this net is slow as! I'm not even 1km from the exchange on iinet, and its way worse than tpg was 3km from exchange.

Is it possible to tweak settings at all, or is this just how it is?

Ok I think I've munted something because even going into the router settings (192.168.1.254) is SUPER slow now...I just upgraded to the latest firmware...

Worked out it was flashget slowing things down. On TPG I couldn't run utorrent at all because it chugged the net even when it wasn't downloading/uploading - looks like on iinet/new modem I can't run flashget at all. I'll try azureus instead now.

huh, azureus instead of flashget?

yor not using your full upstream for torrents are you, coz that will kill your net:

im on iinet and seed 100% of the time im connected to the nets;

i generally set my uploads at 50k/s

No it wasn't the uploads. Running the program at all just chugs the net completely - i can't even barely access the router admin when flashget. No idea why, but utorrent did this at my last place but flashget was fine there.

I'd suggest it's chugging your pc not the net, are you sure it's not re-checking a large linux iso?

Well, unless you've left "check mirrors for alternate downloads" on under flashget and its off checking 10000 different mirrors. But that'd be silly.

I don't even have that option in my flashget...
