Auran have announced that their MMO Fury is shutting down for good:
We have reached our time limit to find a solution that would help us keep the Fury servers open. Sadly, no solution has been found and so we have no alternative than to shut the servers down in 48 hours.

To all those players who have enjoyed Fury and played countless battles, I am sorry that we could not find a viable business model that would allow you to continue playing. To all those naysayers and doomsdayers, we know that deep down you wanted Fury to succeed. Have fun with your parting wishes :)
No doubt this does not come as a surprise to anyone that has been following Fury's lifespan (or, from the sounds of things, anyone that played the game), but it's still sad to see an Australian-made game crash and burn.

Damn that blows.. not because of Fury but because an aussie developer couldn't crack it.

Everyone I've talked to from Auran said they saw it coming, because design had no idea what they were doing. The game dying isn't what I think is a shame, the fact that an entire company went under because of it is the real shame here.

As already said, it sucks to see Aussies giving a go and not making it. IMO they should have qualified for some sort of government arts grant.

I may be mistaken, but I think Auran actually did get some sort of Government grant many years ago when they were developing some sort of game dev engine, Auran Jet I think it was called.

Guess it didnt get far, not much in the mighty wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auran_Jet

I remember being at the press event for the Launch of this game...now I feel bad for swilling their free booze and eating their free food when I wasn't really invited :/

Fury - PC
Avg Ratio: 52%

Don't suppose that had anything to do with it?

Fury was ok nothing spectacular, just make a character and go nuts in PvP was pretty fun for when the WoW servers were down and it was free.

I played it a little. I didn't think it was 'bad', just boring.

Perhaps Auran could have spent more time on Fury other then making multiple train games?

The original Dark Reign was where it was at.

After that, didn't personally find much joy in any of their sequels / new content/games.

:(

Harsh for the peeps who loose out from this decision.

Pretty sure the only thing they made after Dark Reign was Trainz (until Fury). DR2 was produced internally by Activision, not Auran.

Clearly it did sell well otherwise they would've closed up shop years ago instead of after dumping all their money into an MMO that wasn't going anywhere.

I believe Trainz was a huge hit and a big profit maker. You'd be surprised how much money those "sim family friendly title" games bring in.

Sucks for auran and aussie game devs.

At least it was shut down for good and not evil.

Fury was a bit boring, but considering it was pretty much 2 guys that did all the design ideas and didn't take much advice from other people, you'd wonder why it wasn't more successful!

If they're shutting down the game servers maybe they can give away the server software for it now.

My brother bought it for me and I thought it was all right especially considering it was Australian made.

Perhaps Auran should have stuck to making train games instead of spending any time at all on Fury?

Perhaps they should have stuck with RTS, since they knew they were good at it?
