I have a big crt tv that's been playing up for a while now and I'm wondering what it might cost to fix to decide whether to keep it any longer, or whether to chuck it. The picture is curved inwards down both sides of the screen, like the diagram here under "Excessive width/pincushioning problems": http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/tvfaq.htm#tvewpp So it's sounding like the tube is fine, just the pincushion correcting bits are a bit stuffed. Anyone know enough about tvs to know what this might cost to repair? The TV is too big to take places for a quote (won't fit in my car, lol), and I'm guessing most places will charge me for a quote if they have to come pick it up. |

That site's pretty sweet. http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/tvfaq.htm#tvsinghli is the problem my old CRT has. Might look into a self-repair job. If only so I can ebay it before it's totally valueless.

http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/tvfaq.htm#tvsinghli is the problem my old CRT has. Same here except with 2 TVs. First my roommate's TV (something like 15 or 16 years old) did that. Then I replaced it with an 18 year old TV my parents weren't using anymore and it went too. It was weird because the first one was in that spot for 4+ years fine, then they both died in exactly the same way within a month. But they were both very old of course. |
