As a followup to a recent poster's request for Steam cache alternatives, I thought I'd share this little gem that someone put me onto today.

Some awesome dude threw a little dotnet app together that allows you to take advantage of free bandwidth provided by Internode or GA Steam servers :)

3fl has a content server too I think and 3fl is free on iinet. pitty this app only lets you choose ga & node

actually I think if you do this it will work http://www.3fl.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?p=6773#6773

It'd be great if TPG had their own Steam Content Servers.

Or any sort of unmetered content.

Meh. If you're with node, all known Australian content servers are unmetered anyway.

I don't even bother with content server forcing since I get Aussie servers 95% of the time.

Quick google says that 3fl is in the iinet freezone, handy to know. Wish they would tell us stuff like this.

Actually, the distinctive lack of organisation on iinets behalf to list all its free content s***s me now days. used to be a menu that listed it all, it has how ever, vanished.

You mean... like this page? http://iinet.net.au/support/general/guide/freezone.html

You are correct though, they don't really mention the fact about the 3fl steam content server on there at all.

They put that on various forums. 3FL, Westnet, iiNet (games) and Whirlpool.

this would have been a good thing to put to the GA admins when they did the 'what features would you like to see in the future' thing...

whirpool has the "tell us you phone number and we'll tell you what broadband you can have" thing...

it'd be awesome if my Ausgamers account could tell me *that*.... and what FREE DOWNLOADS I CAN GET FOR GAMING based on my isp/phone number/starsign/last name/dna/etc

This is actually really awesome but doesn't help those of us that are on TPG or other ISP's that don't have unmetered content.

my point reso is that to get to that, you have to dig through a few faqs, right?

it's not just a selection on the drop down menus anymore. thats all.

That def. would be sweet and at the very least, would make an excellent article, if we can't build a whole magic system to do it. I'll chalk it down in our article ideas column.
