ABC has launched iView, an online web-based video platform:
The ABC is expanding its online presence, with six new web-based channels.ABC News has some more details in its news article. It should also be noted that it is free traffic for iiNet users, and the ABC site implies that more unmetered access might be coming soon, though there's no details. promoted/edited forum item |

Channel 9's s*** player gets front page news with screencaps of the pathetic "Sea Patrol" and this is floundering in the forum. No one ever doubted that this site takes money from the media empires but surely you can be less blatant.
Anyone know the resolution of the ABC player? All I've heard is "Full-screen". Whatever that means. I could have a video of 100x100 and force it to run at "Full-screen". |

Looks like it's better quality than a standard pdtv cap but not by much, I guess the issue is it's a day behind. i.e. right now it's yesterday's 730 report that's available, not this evenings, and the latest news is Midday Today.

No one ever doubted that this site takes money from the media empires but surely you can be less blatant. No offense intended, but you, sir, are a giant douchebag. If you'd actually read the story I wrote about that, you would have noticed that one of the significant aspects of it was to point out that they were using software that was most probably violating the GPL and distributing it en masse, so it was hardly us pandering to the whims of big media. As much as I'd love to have every single news story up on here first, sometimes its just not possible. If you have a story that you think its newsworthy, you can either submit it to us here, or post it in the forums and wait to see if it gets promoted, like this one did. reso - I edited the crap out of your OP to make it newsworthy rather than post a new thread, hope you don't mind. edit: oh, obviously I can't check this out as I'm still in the USA and I'm not allowed :( Look forward to giving it a crack when I get back though, it sounds cool. I'm also encouraged by the fact that they're looking at ways they can make it unmetered for more ISPs; I'm not sure if its something that can be easily mirrored, per se, but it'd be awesome if it was. last edited by trog at 04:38:02 25/Jul/08 |

ABC is now using Akamai to distribute most of their content, which apparently makes it difficult to un-meter. iiNet is able to do it right now because they happen to have just the right (and very expensive) hardware. Internode's Simon Hackett goes into some detail about the unmetering here:

I watched both eps of the Gruen Transfer via this after trying it out just purely from being on iinet and wanting to test it out. I was really impressed with not only the show (which is f***ing awesome) but the quality of the video too.
