Bloody hell, I had already owned like 3 consoles before that game came out, and I'm not even old. Or were you just a late bloomer?

I think mine was Tennis on the NES. I'm not sure if that was the first I ever played, but that was the first game we got with our NES at home. WE got Mario Bros and Rad racer shortly after.

First game I ever played was probably those game and watch little handheld things Nintendo put out, my cousin had the dual screen donkey kong one and I played that, and I had one where you were firemen and had to bounce people out of a burning building into an ambulance.

First actual 'PC' type game I played was probably something on shad's texas instruments computer. I remember some RPGish kind of dungeon crawling game on there.

First actual game system I owned myself though was the trusty Atari 2600 as pictured above.

Can't remember if it was arcade or console seeing as it was so long ago. I think around 1983 dad bought a console from Dick Smith Electronics that used cartridges. Had some sports stuff with a pong style game. I remember getting a C=64 back in 1984 and the game that came with it was a cartridge called Omega Race which was an Asteroids clone.

Also remember playing early stuff like Space Invaders with my brother down at Palm Beach in the early 80's on the table top setups. f*** I wish I had a time machine to go back and do all that cool stuff again.

A game called Run Man on the C64, was a brilliant game. First IBM game was some text based thing, Castlevania maybe. It had really basic pictures and you had to type in text commands. I also remember playing Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego and Frogger on the Commodore.

Dad rented the console and I played it like it was crack until the console was taken away. Played a couple of C64 games in that era, until we finally got an XT and played text games and bouncing babies etc. I remember Alley Cat really well too. Right down to the beeping noises emanating from my PC speaker.

Some old pong thing. Cept it wasn't a real pong it was some dodgy clone pong 4 players with 4 paddles only lasted for about a year (then it broke, few years latter the folks got a vic20) ... black and brown look. I was about 3 or 4 at the time so I don't remember a great deal about it (just have a photo of it somewhere).

been a while and i'm not sure of some console types and i can't remember games in order to clearly.
i to had the old "pong" i think it was. b&w, two dials, had tennis and squash (not sure if it was called squash) but you hit the little white blob against a wall.
Space Invaders rocked.

then had a C64, then the mighty Amiga!! what a beast - played Links Golf on this one. dabbled in Wolfenstein at an office in Alice Springs.
had Sonic, i think on a Sega System?
loved Carmegeddon - i think on the Amiga also.....god what a tough thread really got me thinking back.

heh that's pretty close to me. I can't remember the game but it was on a TRS80. Then we got an Apple 2 and I remember playing old skool Flight Simulator with Dad. Then we got some other things like Choplifter and Rescue Raiders and all the other Apple classics.

The first PC game I remember playing clearly was Jet (dad loves flight sims).

First Arcade game was Pong which in my old home town was located in the public bar at the local pub. We used to sneak in a get in a couple of games here and there before being chased out by the bar staff.

First console game was on a Hanimex and was indy 500 or something.

First PC game was some old Amrecian civil war rts style game.

Hmm that's a tough one.

First game ever is probably Space Invaders at one of those sit-down machines you used to get in pubs. Hey man it was the 70s, toddlers used to go to pubs...

The first game I ever owned was Dodge'Em which came with the Atari 2600. River Raid and Solaris quickly followed. (Solaris was mind-bogglingly awesome).

First 'computer' game was Wizard of Wor on C64, followed by everything I could get my mits on. Most memorable for C64 has to be the 'gold box' AD&D games. I had severe addiction problems to them in early highschool.

First PC game I played was Doom - first one i owned was probably Solitaire lamentably. I bought rented my first PC just to play WarCraft II.

First online game to destroy my time was SubSpace.

Damn, I thought Janitor Joe was my first game sheerly because it was the worst looking of the games I remember from 2-3 years old (to be fair it was written by a teenager in only 5 days). Games we had like Dig Dug, Digger and Alley Cat preceded it (and me) by a couple of years. f*** you Crazy Frog for ruining my childhood memory of the Digger background music.

Pitfall was one of my favs. Then we got a C64, used to love Double Dragon on it. In 1990 we got a 286.....the rest we all know.

First computer games I played:

ASCII Star Trek on a HP1000 mini in '78 running MPE O/S I think and written in BASIC.

Text Adventure and Wumpus on Honeywell L66 mainframe in '79 running GCOS O/S all written in BASIC as test programs for the hardware.

Galaxian Clone on Apple 2 in '81 finished on Sierra Online Adventure Games running AppleDOS 3.3 then Prodos.

Can't remember on on PC in '85 running IBM PC DOS 1.0 but liked Flight Simulators, Tanks simulators and Adventure games around then.

I personally have never owned a console as I always had a home computer since '81 starting with the Apple 2 48k.

man, we had pcs at home from as far back as i can remember (my old man has a maths/science teacher at a high school)

started with:
PET
TRS80
Tandy
microbee (computer in a book yo)
first ever clone was some old xt monocrome jobby
then a cleveland AT as they were rolled out into some schools
then a variety of newer clones until i started buying my own pcs

was always envious of my mates, with their vic20s/commodores/ataris/amigas (sup tom and jerry) as their games looked so much better and sounded off teh chart better:

Does anyone remember a side scrolling shootem up type game, I had it on PC ( maybe 286? ) but I think it also came out on c64. I don't remember much of it, apart from the fact that it was insanely fun, and it had instructions on how to unplug your PC speaker and wire in an AV receiver instead.

haha gimpy that just looks like a MUD with some graphics put over the top. My first MMO was a text based game (a MUD) called Avatar back in 1998 which is still online at telnet://outland.org:3000

kickass first post....

on 'home computer' it was asteroids - on the most kickaass home computer of them all in the 80's - The Mighty Australian-made and designed MicroBee. Most computer users just buy the f***ers.. we bought it as a kit, and built the thing with our Dads. Kicking-f***ing-ass computer technology that still to this day lives on in many of us who are now old enough to be passing this stuff onto our kiddies. I'm proud to be a MB kiddie. I was just 8 years old, but I built my own computer from the pcb up with Dad. My kid is just 5, but she jumps in with the same curiousity and eagerness thatr I once had.

*ah memories*

from there - things kinda go hardcore commercial (for the time and lets face it it's been that way reguardless of how hard our oldskool forfathers tried):

- pc: Jet

- console: the thing Toll posted + pong. the Atari 2600 kicked it's ass I must admit. it 7800 kicked it further cause you could code your own s*** from the code computer mags posted in the back sections for gaming enthuesiests.

- my first coded gamage: Othello - on the CPM PegASUS - written in GWBasic.. graphics were 100% ASCI. My brothers played it to death. So proud ;)

my mother made me give up coding to become an instrumentalist like her.

I think it was the wrong descision :/

This crazy little car game called IRON MAN (you race around a dirt track with jumps and you can get little nitro boosts and such). I think it was about 94-95... man it was fun... I found it again in like 2001 (on a single floppy disc) and stayed up a whole night trying to finish it, I came close, but never made it...

Tetris was my first taste of gaming goodness.

I have 3 versions of tetris on my mobile phone. my first console game would be mario on the old nintendo. Did you know they stopped producing the original nintendo games console only a few years ago?

November 2002 was the cutoff date. There must have been a lot of retro enthusiasts

Moon Cresta / Space Invaders

Neighbours visiting aunt (staying in the workers cottage down back) had an actual Space Invader arcade table machine (now that I think about it, it was prolly stolen) we used to play on when we weren't out fishing an shooting or just generally exploring the creeks (as farm kids do)

The first PC game I played would've been Wolf3d or something on the Amstrad CPC; Myth/ Dynamite Dan 2 or Eagle's Nest I'm not sure which one.
The first Console game would've been Yoshi's Island for the SNES

My friend's older brother used to do a lot of programming. This was before Windows and he somehow made a DOS game where you were this paratrooper. You jumped out of a plane, had to avoid some pits, and then shot stuff and jumped over it. He eventually became a programmer and worked on a couple games for Lucas Arts.

Probably something on the Atari or one of those little Nintendo handheld thing with Donkey Kong or the one that you catch the paratroppers jumping off the plane?

Excluding Pong and games that were on my mothers work computer (Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego and a bunch of text adventure games I can't remember of the top of my head) The first game that I played on my very own computer was probably this one:

Probably this one:

And then upgraded to:
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/345/800pxberzerk2600shotbe8.jpg
This was one of the first "console" games I ever played.
In 1988, the classic acid house track Stakker Humanoid by Humanoid (Brian Dougans of FSOL) used an Evil Otto sample from the game.
On PC it was probably California Games.

Cool.
I have that Stakker Humanoid track on an old commercial house compilation, but it's a pretty bad copy from memory.
If you'd like to offload any of your vinyl Spook pm me.

PS Did you know Gary Numan is playing at the Tivoli early next year? We got tickets the other day. About $80-90 bux I think.

As my nickname and css name states, Twinsen Little big Adventure, I remember picking it up from Dick Smith Electronics when I was a wee lad.
The second game was king too, but sadly the third never saw light, but dam what a unique game back in the day.
