Not many updates today because we've been on the go from around 7am to 1am. Lots of things were seen today - in the absence of time for a full write-up, here's the abridged version of the mini-version:
  • New Prince of Persia looks really, really cool. GOTY?
  • Pretty much everyone that I spoke to that went to the Sony and Nintendo press conferences were underwhelmed.
  • Tom Clancy's End War looks pretty cool, and contrary to what I thought the voice control stuff isn't just a gimmick - it actually has the potential to be really handy, although whether it can ever replace uber micro remains to be seen.
  • New Wolfenstein game announced; the trailer shown was way too short to form an opinion, but Todd from id Software was certainly excited about it. Looks like it has a lot of occulty sort of stuff. Multiplayer was mentioned several times though so hopefully there's a lot of focus on that. Raven are making it though, so YMMV.
  • Guitar Hero: World Tour looks pretty damn cool.
  • They can't tell me if Far Cry 2 will have any dedicated server for the PC version.
Way, way more stuff happened though - stay tuned for more impressions later.

Update: Now with more trailer linkage

Youtube is for chumps http://www.ausgamers.com/videos/view.php/37349 H5 and I'll add links to all the other relevant trailers we have local now to trog's post.

Reso: I feel the same about wolf, esp after watching the trailer. Even Raven's other new game Singularity (sorry no streaming ver yet) looks better imo.

if farcry 2 has anything that even comes close to decent server support ill eat a bandana.

did rtcw2 just look like rtcw ported to the doom3 engine to anyone else? (meaning no different to cs -> cs:s.. meaning lame effort)

Threewave will be helping out for RTCW2 MP, hopefully they can save it. Originally it was going to be Nerve (who did the RTCW MP), but not any more unfortunately :(

Well the good news is I've been talking to Ubi Australia about their sadly typically woeful dedicated server software across almost all their games, and they're hopefully going to be pointing us in the right direction. I'm hoping when I'm in Europe later this year that I'll be able to actually make an appointment to see someone at Ubi at their head office in Paris and do some serious explaining about why their games would be better with an even token effort made in this area.
