Well I havent seen something like this before, but I guess its a first for everything ...
So I got this server at work, Poweredge 1850. Its got 2 x 73gb u320 10k rpm SCSI drives, one seagate the other maxtor in RAID 1. The maxtor failed so I took it out, seagate then decided to fail too. Now I definitely have lost all the data on it so I go ah well might as well see if I can reinstall windows on them and that wont go either ... windows install says both disks are damage and I must select a different partition. Does this kind of thing happen a lot? Never seen a RAID 1 f*** itself like that :/ |

Just unlucky to get 2 disks fail at once i guess. ive seen raids fail, then re-use all the same disks, create new raid set and it works again for ages, no reason why, well there probably is a reason just not an obvious one

Tried recreating the array? Oh, come to think of it, are you sure it's the disks that have failed rather than an issue with the controller itself?
Oh, and if the disks really have failed, then you're probably better off running some diagnostics on them just to be sure, then dumping them, rather than having at windows installs, just a thought. last edited by icewyrm at 19:56:45 15/Jul/08 |

Yeah, I raid on a server. I raid on Jubei'thos, 3 nights a week, we're on Illidan at the moment. Got phase 2 down last night, so we're over the hard part!

Yeah done, the Maxtor fails completely and while the seagate does seem to work in the Ctrl + M utility you cant write to it lol

Hmm I did not think about there being an issue with the controller ... damn that could be it too? I am out of spare SCSI drives and ordered a couple as it was my first thought. Just have bad experience with Maxtor which is why straight away that was the problem.

I am out of spare SCSI drives No old disks you could throw on to the controller just for testing purposes? Admittely, it's more likely to be the disks than the controller, but it might be worth the time to check it if you have the luxury. |
