I'm fed up with the service at my current bank, just paid off my car loan so I don't have any debts to stay. I'm thinking of switching my everyday banking to the ANZ Access Everyday Debit. I'm a fulltime student so they off 50% discount. With an ANZ Visa Debit Card you will also get * Unlimited ANZ transactions for $6(so $3) month. This includes ANZ ATMs, EFTPOS, ANZ Phone and Internet Banking, and ANZ branch transactions. What banks are you with? Would you recommend them? |

FT student, so I'm reluctant to get a credit card although I really need one. My current bank doesn't do visa debits which is why this is so appealing.

I'm with Suncorp and it's $5 a month but I'm not sure if the transactions are unlimited or not, I've yet to cop any excess fees in any case. You get a visa debit and can attach upto 4 savings accounts that put out at like 7% each for no extra fees or charges.

The NAB gold account looks a winner, especially with the amount late night generic ATM withdrawals I get slugged for.

With an ANZ Visa Debit Card you will also get Yeah I've got their Visa debit account, as a student. Thinking of switching, though. I just don't see why I should be paying $36/year for a Visa debit account with ANZ when I could be paying nothing for a credit card with Commonwealth bank. Plus the latter bank's savings account interest rates seem to be better, plus way more ATMs, etc. (Unless there are catches with commonwealth bank that I don't know about, but it seems like they have unlimited transactions on the streamline acct too with no monthly fee if you're a student?) Oh and for some reason I can never access my transaction history with ANZ's internet banking at 11pm. For some reason it just says unavailable. Try it at other times of the day and it's ok. Plus lots of "Server is too busy for your request" rejections at night .. wtf am I paying fees for then? last edited by parabol at 12:28:17 09/Jul/08 |

ANZ for the win. They're f***ing awesome. Their phone support is simply the best I've ever, ever, ever experienced - never more than one or two minutes on hold and you always get someone who, if they can't help you directly, knows exactly where to send you. I've never had to play phone tag or get bounced to more than 1 other person to have an inquiry answered quickly and efficiently.

I'm with Commbank currently, Whilst ANZ's service is appealing, the $12 unlimited transactions anywhere with NAB is just too good to pass up.

NAB aren't worth wasting your time with, i hate dealing with them, but have to for work.
Commbank is ok, great net bank, but not unlimited transactions. (except for students, but i believe every bank is meant to be for students?) |

Homeloan with Suncorp and so far (~9 months) they seem to be doing the right thing.
Savings is with Queensland Teachers Credit Unuion (Mum's a teacher, been with them for ever) As long as you dont want a loan from them, they're good. They flat out refused a Personal loan (5 Years ago, for a car) and a Car loan (Brand newie) 2 years ago, even though I had very solid working history/pay. You get something like $10 free transactions, Doesn't count Net transferes of Bpay or stuff like that. I've never paid transaction fees. last edited by Scooter at 14:13:25 09/Jul/08 |

I recently changed to Suncorp a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I did. Great service, fantastic products and -get this- CUSTOMER SERVICE. Not only do they actually have customer service, it's GOOD too. f*** Commonwealth, they shalln't see another sent of mine.

if you are a government employee you can go with queensland police credit union.
not much in the way of fees if you use your debit card which comes as your main card, their credit card/debit card security is excellent, lowish interest rates on personal/car loans, but don't ask them for a home loan, they suck bawls and won't allow you to dispute a house valuation or get another one. -ABSOLUTELY NO FLEXIBILITY- been with them for 3 years because i got sick of taking it in the arse by suncorp. |

Sounds good to me, DecayingCorpse. I'm looking for a day-to-day transaction account to replace my s***ty Commonwealth one (I'm a public servant). Q-Super is f***ing tops, might check out some public servant oriented financial institutions too. Thanks for the heads up.

np's.
as i said fees are not much, but you must swipe and sign for everything you pay for with the debit card, otherwise it hurts. |

Yeah, when I signed up the lady was saying "Oh yeah, just hit 'credit' whenever you can to avoid fees". I have done so so far, haven't had a statement mailed to me yet though.
Visa/Mastercard debit is the way to go IMO. I was chatting to somebody in the banking industry as of late, and they were saying how the current Visa/MC debit card structure could have been implemented in the late 80's/early 90's but banks would have lost MILLIONS. *shrug* I have a lot of connections in a variety of places, as some of you may have noticed. |
