So after cooking his 7800GTX*, my brother just had to go down and buy a replacement video card - so got himself a 9800GTX. Nothing over the top - this is in a Q6700.

For s***s and giggles, I asked him to benchmark Quake 3 for me. So max settings, 1600x1200, four.dm_66: 713fps. Dunno, you reckon that's fast enough to be playable?

* = Stupid dips*** had his computer sitting on top of a ducted heating vent, and it's been cold here lately. So after half an hour of artifacting it eventually gave out.

Thought some others might get some amusement out of his screwup here :)

Which explains why I can see flourescent lights flickering at 50Hz.

I'd have to agree with that actually..

I did the environmentally concious thing and replaced most of my lights with the new energy efficient ones. it was good for a few days, but they give us the s***s.

I've replaced the one in the bathroom 3 times now (inside a year). I might haveto stock up on ye olde stle globes while I still can

pretty sure you can run the yellow CF ones or something instead of white if you get headaches, that way you get the bonus of saving $1.20 a year without headaches.

You want to know if his framerate goes from 713 to 759 by enabling it? Would that make it more playable?

He's currently playing Quake 1. Who knows why.
