Topic: Die Hard 4.0 Director Attached to Gears of War Flick

Hollywood industry paper, Variety, is reporting Die Hard 4.0 director Len Wiseman is slated to helm the film version of Epic Games' Gears of War. According to the report, the film is due to release in 2010 and is being penned by Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift scripter, Chris Morgan. Before you go pulling your hair out though, Morgan is apparently redrafting an earlier attempt at writing the film that included collaboration from Epic's own Cliffy B.

The movie is being handled by New Line Cinema and there is currently no word on any actors attached to the project, but given Wiseman's impressive action work on Die Hard 4.0 and the Underworld movies (I said action, not plot), we can at least expect an explosive experience starring Delta Squad and Marcus Fenix.

If the writing is half as good as the game's it should be awesome

Marcus Fenix: What are you doing here?
Dominic Santiago: Getting you out. Here, put this on.
Marcus Fenix: You could get into a lot of trouble for doing this.
Dominic Santiago: Not anymore. Things have changed. Common.
Marcus Fenix: What about the other prisoners? We can't just leave them here.
Dominic Santiago: They're gone. Hoffman pardoned everybody.
Marcus Fenix: Is that right?
Dominic Santiago: Welcome back to the army, soldier.
Marcus Fenix: s***.

and

Pvt. Carmine: Are you THE Marcus Fenix? The one that fought at Asho Fields?
Marcus Fenix: Yep.
Pvt. Carmine: Wow. Cool!
Marcus Fenix: [looks away] Not really.

...that's deep man

As long as they say "eat s*** and die!", everything should be okay.

I'm not sure why anyone would be impressed that the Die Hard 4.0 director would be doing anything. I don't want to lay the blame of what a complete waste of time that cash-in POS was entirely at his feet, but it seems directors love lapping up the glory without any accountability into how crappy a movie actually was.

I've only played Gears for about 30 minutes all up so don't really have any interest in the movie anyway, but the best way you can make me even less interested in movies these days is to let me know its attached to someone that was involved in ruining an otherwise awesome series (see: this bloke, Lucas, and even Spielberg has now made the list because of the travesty that was Indy 4)
