drains are boring, old abandoned houses/factories/industrial plants are where the action is.

Awesome photos there, a little far afield in some cases :) Though I will be in Europe for a few weeks in the near future. Hmm...

does this count as urban exploring? its me in a post apocalyptic ex-soviet town rising from the ashes of a past civilisation

and the guy is urban exploring a bin for the malboro lights i threw out in disgust of me smoking them last night when drinking post apocalyptic vodka

when i was a youngster we did a bit of an urban ex of the old slaughter house that use to be at hawthorn (tis torn down now and made into appartment) and just for kicks we did it in the middle of the night. Some of the f***ed up s*** i saw that night haha jesus... including;

the only room in the place with electricity (looked like an office or something) being absolutely covered in photos of what looked like peoples familys and s***, only made visible by the flickering fluros. Not a bare peice of wall...

The house at the back which must have been for the steward or some onsite guy having random cloves of garlic all the way through it, and the bath/bathroom being covered in clumps of hair. Also a bedroom or study or something have dry blood stains up the walls. f***ing freaky when your walking through it with a fire staff as light...

The constant smell of meat even tho it hadn't been used in 20 years or something.

The weird ass people from the neighbourhood walking dogs and washing cars and s*** at 2am..

damn im gonna try find some photos. The s*** you do as kids ay haha

So, did this last night - was good fun.

http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain1.jpg
Random 4Chan guy I arranged to meet. At night in a sewer. Perhaps silly of me. This is the entrance, the photo is poorly lit but it looks out over the river from near the bike path at North Quay. You should be able to see William Jolly Bridge.

http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain2.jpg
Brick lined tunnel, tall enough to walk upright in. Apparently one of the oldest drains in Brisbane. I don't know an exact date. Perhaps convict built, perhaps not.

http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain3.jpg
Just keeps going.
http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain4.jpg
And going. We got startled a bit by sudden bangs early on, but it turns out to be cars driving over manhole lids. Makes a thumping noise that carries for ages down there. We see heaps of cockroaches, but no rats or anything fun.
http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain12.jpg
And then a branch. I am excited to be in the drains :) We take the bigger tunnel, turning to the left (roughly west, probably running nearly parallel to the river at that point). And the word to my left there was in fact "REDRUM". Sounds like something a pirate would drink.
http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain11.jpg
We check a lot of branches and manholes. Lifted one up a bit, heard someone say "Hello!" and put it back down. Needless to say I picked a plate that didn't seem to be on the road. After maybe an hour we were hearing a weird roaring clanking sound every so often, which we guessed to be trains crossing overhead (at the north end of William Jolly Bridge).

http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain5.jpg
http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain6.jpg
http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain7.jpg
After a fair bit of walking and a few turns we found this gallery, noticable inprovement in the quality of graffiti. Also someone hanged a doll. And painted pretend blood on the floor beneath it. Fair enough. Someone had painted "Needs more desu." on the wall, so some nerds have already been through.

http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain8.jpg
For no particular reason I decided to lift myself up and see where the cabling ran, and I could see reeds. I thought they were green cables at first, but no. So we decided to crawl through and see where we were.

http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain9.jpg
At first I thought we were in a garden bed somewhere, but as it turns out there was a very helpful sign there. We were inside Roma St parklands, on the shore of the lake.

http://users.tpg.com.au/sam69c/CBD Drain Photos/Drain10.jpg
Ahhhh, that explains it. The lake is part of the stormwater system, the reeds and other plants help to clean out the water before it drains through the old brick lined system to the river. Explains the lost looking toad down in the gallery, dozy bugger must have fallen through or been washed in.

We did another tunnel later but it wasn't as much fun. It was all new piping, completely clean, we may have been the first in there, but since there was nothing much to see - meh. Anyway, should the need arise I can get from North Quay to Roma St parklands or vice versa without moving aboveground. Unlikely to be useful until the zombies hit.

All in all a fun night :)

If you're going to meet up with random people on the Internet in underground tunnels, make sure you post here first before you go somewhere so when you fail to turn back up we know where to direct the police when you fail to post again :)

Looks like a pretty cool adventure though, good pics!

I remember in the last thread of this nature, somebody mentioned being in a very scary situation, but they were reluctant to divulge it. There were also stories of a lot of weird satanic s*** going on underground. I'd love to hear some of these scary/strange stories.

I'm about to go back to work for six weeks, but the other guy and myself are hoping to do an expedition in early August. I was going to say "mount an expedition" but it's too easily taken out of context.

Having checked Google maps I think it's more likely we heard trains near Roma St station than at William Jolly bridge.

Speak english when the time comes. Yeah I'd be up for teaming up with QGL people. That's what this thread was about, getting volunteers :)

James was the most experienced sounding person in the 2005 thread, I don't even remember him posting here recently though...

I reckon you followed the Adelaide St Culvert, branching off at Edward street and headed west towards Roma St Parklands. That branch should be right underneath the intersection of Edward and Adelaide.

Hey guys, was hoping i could tag along on your next mission?

As far as i'm aware it's not illegal. Though i've never really looked into it.
The bars/grills are placed over most pipes to stop kids getting in for safety reasons, not legality.

Also, Sewer Trunk Mains are around the 1m Mark, With the largest I can find in Logan being just 1.5m, thats the line running into the Sh!t plant. Average pipes in residential are 225mm. Good luck climbing sliding up them.

A question to the guys doing this, Do you get a DBYD plan of the Stormwater so you have a MUD map and can work out where you're going? Or just run in marking/remembering where you've been and hope to find a way out?

Chub, I have seen a lot of western/northern queensland. What to you makes nanango nice over other country towns? Personally i think Nanango sucks compared to Wondai or Theodore or somewhere like that.

Scorp, CHUB and co. Yeah I'd definitely be up for more members next time we do something. Aboveground or whatever, but long drives may be difficult...

Scooter I looked into getting plans from the BCC, but had a hard time finding out what I needed. If you could give me some idea what sort of plan would tell me the diameter and outflow points for the drainage network that would be cool. As it was I went in with a non permanent marker (basically a huge red crayon), but the way we took was pretty straightforward. Your guess of the route sounds about right. We could always have followed the small amount of water back to the river in the worst case scenario...

Well obviously if you could get As-Constructed plans they would be better, but you would probably have to pay for them. Not sure how BCC works, depending on the situation you have to pay to get LCC As-Con plans. Ipswitch have a much much higher standard for As-Con plans, so they probably charge for all of them. (Like crazy higher, which is good, not for Developers though)

Otherwisse DBYD (Dial Before You Dig) is a free service. Though you have to sign up and they will sometimes call you and ask what you need the plans for. Say Survey or Investigations for Development or something as long as you dont say you're actually digging stuff up.

No idea how good the plans for Brisbane stormwater is. Logan has about a 95% accuracy with it's pipe alignment. DBYD wont give you pipe sizes, well not the copy you will get. However it will act as a general map.

Seems Spook has posted up my link to http://pipefox.org . Glad most of you enjoyed it, as per the feedback. As for Domino, don't make me slap you in the face with my dick for being an idiot. Is that sexual enough?

I've recently rewritten the site which has a lot of new content and functions.
I do it for the adventure, photos come third, second are the wenches and homeless floozies. As for flash floods, bring on the surprise river rafting computer chair warriors! Go live your life.

StopShootingMe: That system is called the Brisbane Darkie. It's one of the easier and most accessible. Few features and stuff to see along with popping out in the 'video camera'd' street of Roma. There was a collapse in the tunnel recently which was fixed by the council. Sometimes it smells like an a****** and sometimes it's just plain sewer fresh with mildew. Trains and slime, take a lick, it's healthy I swear.
