I asked because I'm almost at my monthly usage limit, so I don't want to do any unnecessary browsing.

You should see if your ISP has a free mirror or something and download it from them

heh I'm in no rush to get the file.

It's just that I'm at 10338/12000 with 6 days left to go. I am doing everything I can (other than stopping posting on QGL) to NOT get capped during exam study period.

Just disable image downloads in firefox. Then you can browse as much as you like - forums at least :P

Just disable image downloads in firefox.

It also helps to have squid installed. If anyone is interested, I can post a Windows howto for it.
Damn useful for cutting down traffic prior to shaping, as well as making shaped browsing much nicer.

Get yourself the addon “Flashblock”, it's a godsend for preventing annoying flash adverts and works as a handy prevention for youtube’s autoplay. Open as many tabs as you like with out having to go through all of them clicking pause.

I think it was because I used noscript + flashblock but I had to click on youtube videos and other flash things something like 3 or 4 times before they'd play so I f***ed flashblock off since noscript blocks flash objects on non trusted sites and also blocks other haxy scripts that flashblock probably doesn't get.

For some reason, a few of my favorites have disappeared since the upgrade.... hrmmm

Meh I still think NoScript is over-rated, causes too much trouble.

Also for anyone wanting to try FF3.0 RC2, there's the portable version that can be installed on a usb stick or a regular folder without messing up your current install or leaving a profile mess around your hard-drive. Just delete the folder when you're done and it's completely gone.

SourceForge Link

And from what I saw in the portable version, FF3 is looking very promising indeed!

I've only ever encountered problems on sites that use offsite scripts to do s*** rather than having it embedded in their own page. Stuff like [script]http://www.offsite.com/blah.js[/script] then you have to allow that site too but other than that, nothing. What troubles do you have when using it? It's possible I've come across them but put it down to something else.

I would be interested, if I could run squid without having to learn how to run linux that would be pretty great.

Having to manually allow every new website to run scripts (a bit of a bitch when you're following dozens of slashdot/digg links). With all the AJAX-ing of today's webpages I usually end up having to fumble with NoScript about 90% of the time.

Alright I'll get a tutorial together sometime. Following the official docs doesn't work, but there are only 2 tiny changes you have to make to the cfg to make it work.

ravn0s, not sure, maybe - it might pwn some extensions and data so I'd probably avoid it. If you want to check it out use parabols portable link
