I'm hiring a desktop support person very soon. Can be full time, or in a job sharing part time position to suit students or WoW addicts. Actually WoW addicts need not apply!

Job Ad is on Seek : http://it.seek.com.au/showjob.asp?jobid=12922483

I reserve the right to publically ridicule any applicants I don't like on this forum.

and yes I'm another one of those jerks who is advertising the position without a pay range. It is a fairly junior role, so don't expect a company jet.

Check the Hayes Salary Survey for Helpdesk Support / Service Desk. That will give you a rough idea of the current market we're looking at for this job.

I just re-read the ad and realised its 8am->7pm rostering. Unfortunatley, 8:30->5 M-F is too good to give up :D

Stinky, I know you're probably governed by corporate policy and HR departments... but Whirlpool have just added a Job Board to their website. Considering a lot of the people on whirlpool actually know what they're doing - it might be worth making use of it. (Free I think, but you can't be using an agency).

A lot of people on Whirlpool think they know what they're doing...some of the people giving out career advice on the IT&T forums are uni grads, people who have worked for 1 year or high school students...scary stuff.

Last time I posted a job on whirlpool all I got was a bunch of whinging about the job ad and not a single applicant. It was almost identical to this current ad.

If you have any helpdesk manager positions I would be interested. Looks like a good job, would have applied if it came up about 3 years ago :)

I will forward it onto a friend of mine who might be interested.

im in the same boat as mongie except replace 60k with 70k and replace 8:30-5 with 9:15-5

Anyone with salary expectations of $60k would have rocks in their heads to apply for what is obviously a junior position. Even if we were paying that much anyone with the skills to ask for $60k would get bored very quickly.

So what salary huh?

If I knew I was getting 25K for a new job I wouldnt bother going for an interview and then bail after they said the salary...

Like a games testing job I went for at Creative Assembly. They said 15 bucks an hour and paid every MONTH. I was like... hmmm nah kthxbi

that's a good point. i've had jobs before that were a piece of piss and it seems great for a few months, until you realise you've got no drive and your skillset is plateauing.

I think the problem is, the thread and job ad are titled "Desktop Support" and when you directed me to the Hayes guide I didn't notice you'd mentioned for a help desk position :D

Desktop support avg. for Brisbane is $60k.

Perhaps you should be advertising it as a help desk position?

You do actually raise a good point there. Unfortunately I have to advertise the job with the internal job title which may be a bit misleading. That's why I linked the Hayes guide the way I did to help clear up both the salary expectations and the role's industry title(s).

Although as it's a very junior position one could expect that the renumeration would more closely reflect the bottom end of the scale, in which case the bottom end of the Desktop Support salary range in the guide isn't unreasonable.

I'd say more like Eds works for stinky, or under him or on top of him. Depends on his mood I guess. hehe

Competitive salary + super + ‘employee welfare benefits’

Is that a subtle way of saying "you get to eat stinky's awesome cooking?" ??? man that'd be awesome

From what I've seen (my girlfriend worked at Pandemic for a while), the Employee Welfare Benefits are pretty sweet.. Much better than I've seen at any other company.

If I wasn't so happy where I am, I'd already have applied. The guys (and girls) at Pandemic are a great bunch of people, and I can think of far worse places to work.

Opec is on the money, Stinky is my boss.

The perks at pandemic are fantastic and the people are great as well. Plus those awesome monday's when stinky has gotten bored on a weekend and put a cow through his smoker.
