I need comments people!

Please don't just read this and then not comment, this is a very important discussion and as the host of this discussion I can go back and look at my online records to see how many people read this discussion and how many actually posted a comment.

Okay now to the topic, well i want to know what you (yes you, the one reading this sentence, staring at the computer screen right now, most likely thinking whoever wrote this discussion is kinda crazy and messed up in the head or you're intrigued to read further) think, write down your thoughts, opinions and verdicts.

Topic: Do you go to school? Do you own an ipod? Tell me now, are you allowed to have your ipod in class or are they banned? If they are banned at your school then why do you think they are banned.

Now you may be thinking who would start a forum topic on ipods in class, well me of course but me isn't a very good example of who I am. I am an apple tech consultant meaning i make decisions on products on how to make them better and i brainstorm new model ideas as well as guiding others that are doing the same in my work place. at the moment we are looking at ipods in classes and their effects. We may even be coming up with a new ipod model that is better suited to learning and brainwave patterns so that you can have ipods in class!

I want to here your opinion...

I can also maybe send you pics?

I don't believe that for a second, not even people who work for Apple are as creepy as you seem.

I read your post, I'm replying and I'm not giving you the information you want.

If you're going to pretend to be someone doing business research, atleast do it in a convincing way.

Troll account or a little tween looking for help because their school banned ipods because the dopey s***s weren't paying attention? Who cares :) At least your 2nd post is readable, the 1st one which got deleted was an offense to the English language and far more suitable for a myspace blog.

Heh, actually it's a 50 something post count newb but at the moment there's a bug with displaying the correct post count for some reason on the ausgamers forum.

Its not urgent or important to fix because no-one sane cares about post counts... its all about the User ID you get when the account was made :P

And as for Trog listening to me? Well I'm fairly sure he can hear me, I'll say that much :)

But... post count is everything isn't it?

Maybe you should tell Apple to invent an invisible iPod or something.

Anyone else getting these problems in FF3

3dee's name for example. From the main page, displays some unknown character
http://josh.net.au/images/3d1.PNG

But in the thread, it displays as it should
http://josh.net.au/images/3d2.PNG

My ski thread is the same, in the main page, unknown character
http://josh.net.au/images/ski1.PNG

In the thread, umlaut appears fine

why would people already sitting in front of computers, reading this here thread, need an ipod? the computer they are using to read the thread can play mp3s or cds or wotever without the need for s***ty ipods or itunes or ifuknanything. use foobar or winamps thnx.

Mobile phones and ipods, along with other similar devices, should be banned from school.

The current push from some quarters is to use facebook, myspace, mobiles and ipods .

My boss today was saying we should remove all the filters and allow kids to make mistakes...

Before too much longer exams will be via sms.

Kids can make mistakes on their own time. School is for learning, not distractions. Not that I ever sat at Uni lectures reading QGL on my laptop.

When I was in years 11/12 mobile phones were starting to become more common (still, most families probably still only had one or two). I think I remember mobiles and CD players and walkmans being banned from school, not because they were a distraction or anything, but because the school didn't want to have to deal with s*** getting stolen, or some idiot kid losing their s*** and whinging about it, then having parents call up to whinge about it.

At our school there was a policy about all valuables cameras, phones, ipods etc being left at home as a security thing like billy says.

Most teachers had their own policies on it though. Some would take a phone of you the second they saw it, others would let you listen to ipods in class providing you they weren't trying to talk at that point.

Actually, despite the obvious intellectual impairment of the original poster, it is an interesting question, particularly in light of evidence suggesting that some schools may be using ipods etc as a content delivery medium.

What I fail to understand is the vilification of a forum moderator whose job it is to moderate threads and ensure that they comply with a pre-determined set of rules that, by your posting here, you have agreed to comply with.

Rather than attacking Trog, how about you either post something of value, or go find something better to do with your time?

Its actually surprisingly topical (the original post is weak, stieks me as a student who wants to sit in class and do nothing and tune out to their ipod). But educaters are discussing these issues (along with wiki's, blog, social networking, you tube and phones).

i wear my headphones nearly the whole time i am at work... asif work without music!~@# in fact i have been told by the powers that be that i must wear my headphones coz no one else likes my music n the alternative is to crank it out on my speakers :D working with music definitely increases my productivity coz without it i get bored in about 30seconds n start wandering...

sure, occasionally when other employees come to consult me about workstuff they can get a little pissy when i show them my 'hey! wait till this track has finished man!' hand. but they get used to it. :D

also, lols @ nuke rage. rage more noobs.

I don't go to school any more, but I don't know why OP thinks it's a new issue. When I went to school I wasn't allowed to have Walkman/Casette/CD-Players in the class either for obvious reason i.e. you're supposed to be listening and paying attention not f***ing listening to music. Same goes with Game boy blah blah blah. Hell in some class if people started to fiddle with the calculator when it isn't needed like in English class you'd get your arse kicked.

I don't see how this is a new "important" issue, how the hell do you think that you can listening to music and also listening to the teacher at the same time?. I play music when I code but then I'm not trying to listen to anyone teching me stuff. When people are talking to me, I mute the music because *gasp* I can't properly listen and comprehend what they're saying if my music is on....

Banning it from school completely is of course stupid and separate thing completely. Kids should be able to listen to their music etc. in their spare time/break. I agree with banning it from class room though.

it's always disapointing to give 5 minutes of instruction then going around and checking each student is on task, see a girl take off her ipod (it's all hidden in her hair) and ask "what are we doing??" :@

If the old guys aren't in the office (i.e. doing field work) i'll have music playing softly. The Design CAD monkeys always have soft music playing...

Soft music in the back round is completely different to headphones, as most headphones (well that I see/use) are designed to cut out external noise, which IMO wouldn't be productive in an office.
Totally retarded to have Ipods playing in your ear at school, you're there to listen to the teacher not listen to music. Even when given a task in say Graphics, which you can do without input from the teacher, often you'll get directions/tips that you should be paying attention too. Obviously there are safety concerns in some classes (Shop) as well.

I think mp3 players with decent gain built in microphones could be pretty handy for recording lecture content. Although it would probably be more useful in proving that stupid thing your lecture said weeks after the fact, or making amusing remixes of her speech impediments.

Also, it would be handy if teachers had electronic whiteboards and recorded digital copies of their work to email to students.

Frankly, I'd suspect most public schools (most educational institutions in general, really) are still stuck with chalk boards and couldn't afford any such gadgetry. From a budgeting point of view, I think spending would be better used improving teacher wages.
