Not for a game that's been out as long as CoD4, and not when the same game costs US$40

and the companies that sell this wonder why piracy is rampant. the australian dollar is near parity, the games publishers, from pc to console are raping the australian consumer.

When TF2 is US $19.95, any game seems like a complete ripoff.

sort of like how the new BMW X6 retails in the US for $70k but will be over $100k in Aus.

i also love it how people complain about PC games at $70 but willingly pay $100 for console games.

they don't care about piracy i guess because online play is where it's at.

Just to clarify,

Im talking game, sealed in box, from an aussie seller, for ~55 btw :)

(I assume the dodgy singapore/thailand/hongkong copies are just a cd key..)

That's alright on ADSL2 or high usage plans... but I spent $100 for the Orange Box DVD (instead of $50 US Steam) and it's been worth every penny.

Reinstalled the 15gb probably 6 or 7 times since I purchased it.
I've never bought off steam. What happens when you need to format? How do you get your game again?
Whore out massive GB's of your download content.

Great if you're on 150gb ADSL2, but if you're on ADSL1 that's 50% of your monthly quota when you could have just popped a CD in.

Are you serious? Our dollar is basically identical, just buy it!
19.99 USD = 20.8121 AUD
United States Dollars Australia Dollars

Ohnoes, an extra 80 cents :)

I can't express how much this game rocks! $20, that should be criminal.

OR of you could just back it up using the handy backup feature that comes with steam.

I think cod4 is the only game where you get screwed on the price. Most games on steam are the same price for AUS and US.

I suggest giving medic a whirl first, helps you learn how to play TF2. Follow around some soldiers, demos and heavys and it will make sense very quick.

It seems simple at first, but there's a massive gap between a leet player and your average pub noob.

Before you format, just pick the Backup option in Steam and pick what games you want to backup. You can also split it up into whatever size files you want (if you wish) then copy the backup files produced to another partition/drive/CD/DVD/anything.

Just run the .exe in that backup set after you format and it'll restore your game. Ready to play.

I don't know if this is just for Valve-only games (HL2, TF2, etc) or whether they've standardised it for all games. But if you can download it via Steam then I'm sure it's standardised and backup-able.
